ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's basketball team seeks to get back into the win column as it hosts Cal State Los Angeles Thursday followed by a game with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday. The games are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. inside Lumberjack Arena.

HSU (6-5, 4-4 CCAA) enters the weekend hungry to snap its three-game losing streak following losses to UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona last weekend.

"We've had a lot of film sessions this past week, and I think it has been a good eye-opener for us," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We are focused on being a high-energy team and being more active on the defensive end. That's where everything stems from and that is an area we haven't been consistent in. I always love this time of year, and we always get better as a basketball team. These last 10 days we've solely focused on us, and we are getting better in a lot of different areas. We have been in the gym a lot, and I think we are a better basketball team than we were a week ago."

Junior forward Alexia Thrower has established herself as one of the conference's best as she averages the fifth most points (15.7) and fourth most rebounds (10.5). The North Coast squad will look to stretch the floor with its shooting ability as Madeline Hatch (40 percent) and Isa Conde (37.3 percent) are third and fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, respectively, in three-point shooting percentage.

LA currently holds a 6-6 overall record and is 3-5 in league play after dropping games versus UC San Diego and San Francisco State this past weekend. The Golden Eagles will look to senior guard Chiderah Uzowuru who averages 17.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game to lead the way.

"LA is big on the inside, but that is not a surprise to us," said Bento-Jackson. "We are oftentimes undersized when it comes to height but at the same time, Cal State LA could be playing with five guards. Regardless of what their lineup is, I always say there are certain things that we need to do. We don't get wrapped up in size, we put the focus on the fact that those bigs have to come guard us. We look at that to be to our advantage if we execute appropriately on the defensive end."

Dominguez Hills (7-6, 3-4 CCAA) looks to bounce back from last weekend which saw it fall against San Francisco State and UC San Diego. The Toros lean on their high-powered offense that averages 71.1 points per contest, good for third in the conference. Senior guard Nautica Morrow leads her team with 14.4 points per game.

Tickets for this weekend's games are still available at HSUJacks.com/tickets. HSU students, faculty and staff receive free admission to home games with a campus ID.
