POMONA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos scored three goals in the second half to key their 4-0 win over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks this afternoon in Pomona, Calif. Humboldt State had 11 shot attempts on the afternoon including four by
Israel Gonzalez and two by
Marco Silveira. HSU will be at No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino this Sunday, October 27 for a 2pm match with the Coyotes.
FIRST HALF: Cal Poly Pomona (7-4-2, 6-1-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jimmie Villalobos in the fifth minute. The Lumberjacks had a chance to tie it at 1-1 in the 14
th minute, but
Marco Silveira's shot was stopped by the Bronc's Jordan Aldama in the 14
th minute. HSU had another chance to tie the match in the 37
th minute when Jordan Bruton's shot was stopped by Aldama to send the match into the half with CPP leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Villalobos' goal in the 56
th minute doubled CPP's lead to 2-0 off a ball from Christian Miramontes. The Broncos increased their lead to 3-0 in the 60
th minute on a goal by Miramontes on an assist from Villalobos. The hosts sealed the win in the 85
th minute on a goal by Villalobos.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State (6-7, 2-6 CCAA) will travel to San Bernardino this Sunday for a 2pm match with No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes lost 2-1 to San Francisco in overtime this afternoon
