No 3 Cal State Los Angeles Holds On To Defeat Lumberjacks on Senior Day

ARCATA, Calif.---  Humboldt State's men's soccer team had their Senior Day spoiled by the visiting No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles.  The nationally ranked Golden Eagles used two first half goals to key their 2-1 victory.  Isaiah Dairo scored HSU's goal in the 23rd minute on a ball from Israel Gonzalez
 
FIRST HALF:  Cal State Los Angeles (15-0-1, 10-0-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a goal by David Elizaga on a cross from Daniel Simonis.  Humboldt State tied the match at 1-1 one minutes later as Isaiah Dairo connected on a ball from Israel Gonzalez for his 13th goal of the season.  The Golden Eagles retook the lead in the 36th minute when Morten Bjoershol scored his first goal off a ball from Manuel Garcia to give the visitors the 2-1 lead.  Humboldt State had two chances to tie the match in the final minutes of the half.  The first in the 37th minute when Dairo's shot was stopped by Alex Brems.  Then in the final minutes of the half, Israel Gonzalez saw his shot went wide right of the net as CSULA took a 2-1 lead into the half. 
 
SECOND HALF:  Robert Quintero made one of his 11 saves on the day in the 56th minute when he stopped Antonio Rosas' shot on goal attempt.  Ethan Waters had a chance to tie the match at 2-2 in the 72nd minute when his shot went wide of the goal.  Marco Silveira had two chances to tie the match for Hsu in the 84th minute, but both shots went wide right of the goal. Then with 25 seconds left, Dairo had HSU's final chance to tie the match but his shot was blocked by CSULA's defense and the Golden Eagles took the 2-1 victory.
 
SENIOR DAY:  Prior to the match, HSU honored its six seniors in Gus Baxter, Isaiah Dairo, Israel Gonzalez, Rudi McClellan, Robert Quintero and Dalton Rice in a ceremony on the pitch at College Creek Field.
