SAN DIEGO, Calif.--- The trio of
RaySean Scott Jr.,
Leland Green and
Jackson Strong combined for 75 points, but Humboldt State Lumberjacks fell 102-91 at Point Loma this evening in their regular season opener of the 2019-20 season. Point Loma, who are the 2018-19 NCAA Division II National Champion Runner-ups, were led by Darnell Robateau's 23 points.

Steve Kinder. "We showed how potent we can be with our arsenal, but need to play the marathon of forty minutes of good basketball. We had a nice lead but need to sustain it, Put out foot down, and stomp. Our defense wasn't good enough against a very good Point Loma basketball team."
FIRST HALF: Humboldt State (0-1) built a 12-4 lead in the first four minutes capped by a three by
Leland Green off an assist from Robert Lewis. A three by Josh Caston cut the 'Jack lead to 20-18 with 11 minutes left in the half. Point Loma took a 22-21 lead on a lay-up by Sterling Somers with 8:36 left in the half. The Sea Lions increased their lead to 35-30 on a three by Darnell Robateau, but HSU cut the deficit to 42-28 on two free throws by Ray Sean Scott, Jr., 42-39 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: Point Loma (1-0) opened up the half taking a 65-54 lead in the first six minutes of the second half. A three by Ray Sean Scott Jr., cut the 'Jacks deficit to 75-69 with 8:38 left in the game. A lay-up by Darnell Robateau increased the hosts' lead to 81-7 with 7:16 to go. A jumper by Ben Okhotein gave Point Loma a 91-75 lead, but the Lumberjacks would not go away. A three by

LUMBERJACK LEADERS: Three players scored in double digits for HSU lead by

Leland Green added 31 points while
Jackson Strong had 11 points.
Leland Green had six of HSU's 15 assists to lead the Lumberjacks. Scott had a team high three blocked shots and Green had two steals to lead the 'Jacks. Green also had six of HSU's 13 three's. Scott paced HSU with eight rebounds.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will face Fresno Pacific tomorrow evening at 5:30pm in San Diego. The Sunbirds lost 77-73 in overtime to Montana State Billings. The Lumberjacks will have their home opener on November 13 at 7pm when they host Antelope Valley.
