HAYWARD, Calif--- Humboldt State rallied from a 16-point deficit to take a 51-49 lead late in the game this afternoon in Hayward. Cal State East Bay outscored the Lumberjacks 9-7 in the final six minutes to take the 59-58 conference victory.
Tyra Turner paced the 'Jacks with a season high 16 points while
Molly Dixon added 15 points. Alexia recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second in a row with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Lumberjacks.
FIRST QUARTER: Cal State East Bay (9-3, 5-1 CCAA) scored the first four points of the game until a three by
Tyra Turner off a pass from
Alexia Thrower scored HSU's first point of the game at the 7:36 mark of the quarter. The Pioneers finished the quarter on a 9-1 run to take a 13-4 lead heading into the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER: The Lumberjacks cut the Pioneer lead to 13-9 capped by a
Molly Dixon three off a pass from
Tyra Turner to cut the hosts' lead to 13-9 in the first two minutes of the second quarter. Cal State East Bay outscored HSU 16-7 in the next six minutes to take a 29-13 lead. A three by
Molly Dixon off an assist from
Jasmine Reupenny cut the Pioneer lead to 31-22 heading into the half.
THIRD QUARTER: Cal State East Bay started the third quarter on an 8-3 run capped by a jumper by Madison Schiller to take a 39-25 lead just two minutes into the quarter. They took a 43-27 lead on a lay-up by Morgan Greene at the 5:57 mark of the quarter. Humboldt State (8-3, 5-2 CCAA) cut the deficit to single digits, 45-39, on a lay-up by
Madeline Hatch off a pass from
Alexia Thrower with just 65 seconds left in the quarter. HSU kept its run going as a
Tyra Turner lay-up cut HSU's deficit to 45-41 heading into the fourth quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: Humboldt State came out on fire in the final quarter as the 'Jacks went on a 10-4 run capped by a lay-up by
Alexia Thrower as they took a 51-49 just three minutes into the final period. A free throw by
Emily Packham increased the Lumberjacks' lead to 52-49. Cal State East Bay went on a 7-0 run to take a 56-52 run with just 3:02 left in the game. The Lumberjacks didn't go away as they tied the game at 56-56 on a jumper by
Tyra Turner with 62 seconds on the clock. Three free throws by Morgan Greene and Kincso Kelemen gave the hosts a 59-56 lead. Humboldt State was fouled on a three-pointer with just 0.3 seconds on the clock, but the 'Jacks just went two of three from the line as CSUEB took the 59-58 victory.
NUMBER FIVE: Alexia Thrower recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second in a row this afternoon. She scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in 40 minutes. She also tied her career high with two blocked shots.
THREE IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Humboldt State had three players in double digits led by
Tyra Turner's season high 16 points.
Molly Dixon chipped in 15 points and
Alexia Thrower added 14 points for the Lumberjacks.
15 TURNOVERS: The Lumberjacks forced 19 turnovers by the Pioneers including seven by steals.
Madeline Hatch had two assists with
