Lumberjacks To Start the New Year with Three-Game Home Stand

ARCATA, Calif..---  Humboldt State will begin the 2020 year with a three-game home stand beginning this Saturday, January 4 with a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game with the Stanislaus State Warriors.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm at Lumberjack Arena. 
 
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAME:  The Lumberjacks are coming off a 60-51 loss at the hands of the Chico State Wildcats in Chico on December 21.  Alexia Thrower recorded her sixth double-double with a 30-point, 17-rebound performance.  She recorded three doubles and blocked one shot while dished out one assist for the 'Jacks.  Gabrielle Carbajal chipped in eight points while Molly Dixon added seven points for HSU.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the CCAA after its game on December 21 at Chico State.  The Lumberjacks are in a three-way tie for fifth place with Chico State and Sonoma State and a half-game out of fourth place (UC San Diego).  Cal State East Bay leads the CCAA with its 6-1 record followed by Cal State San Marcos (5-1) and Stanislaus State (5-2). 
 
HSU is averaging 64.92 points per game while giving up 60.0 points per game.  The 'Jacks are being out-rebounded 37.4 to 33.1, but are forcing 16.6 turnovers per game and only turning the ball over 11.2 turnovers per game. Alexia Thrower leads the way with her 21.9 scoring and 11.0 rebounding average.  She is also shooting a team high 52.6% from the field while recording a team leading 23 steals and blocking a team high seven shots.  Tyra Turner leads HSU with her 54 assists and 76.5% shooting from the line.  Molly Dixon has made a team high 24 three's while connecting on 35.8% of her attempts from beyond the arc. 
 
AMONGST THE NATION'S LEADERS:  In the latest NCAA Division II women's basketball statistics report that was released on December 23, Humboldt State's Alexia Thrower is eighth in the nation in scoring, ninth in total rebounds, 12th in rebounding and 13th in double-doubles.  Senior guard Tyra Turner is 19th in assists per game and 30th in total assists.  As a team, the Lumberjacks are 30th in fewest turnovers and three-point field goal percentage defense.
 
25-8 AT LUMBERJACK ARENA: The are 25-8 at Lumberjack Arena since the beginning of the 2017-18 season.  Humboldt State is 6-1 this season with its only loss a 76-73 blemish to Western Washington on Nov. 9. 
 
SEVENTH IN THE REGION:  In the last D2SIDA NCAA Division II West Region Poll that was released on December 16, Humboldt State is seventh.  The top five teams are 1.) Hawaii Pacific, 2.) Alaska Anchorage, 3.) Cal State San Marcos, 4.) UC San Diego and 5.) Azusa Pacific.  Rounding out the top five are 6.) Point Loma, 7.) Humboldt State, T8.) Cal State East Bay, T8.) Central Washington T10.) Western Washington and T10.) Northwest Nazarene.
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Tyra Turner is moving on up the career lists at Humboldt State.  She is second in assists (439), third in steals (201), seventh in free throws made (248) and ninth in points (956). 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Two Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in Alexia Thrower and Tyra Turner.  Thrower has six double-doubles including one each of the Lumberjacks' last three games while Turner has one.
 
11.3: Humboldt State is just turning the ball over 11.3 times per game while forcing 16.6 turnovers per game by its opponents.  The Lumberjacks are recording 7.3 steals per game paced by Alexia Thrower's 23 followed by Tyra Turner's 17.  Molly Dixon has 13 and Gabrielle Carbajal has 11 steals this season.
 
12.3:  The Lumberjacks are averaging 12.3 assists per game with Tyra Tuner leading the way with her 54 total assists and just 28 turnovers in 10 games.  Three other Lumberjacks have a positive assist to turnover ratio in Molly Dixon (15 assists, 11 turnovers), Gabrielle Carbajal (27 assists, 16 turnovers) and Emily Packham (four assists, two turnovers). 
 
WARRIORS IN REVIEW:  Stanislaus State is 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the CCAA after losing 82-70 at Cal State East Bay on December 22.  The Warriors are in third place in the CCAA with their 5-2 record.  Stanislaus State is averaging 70.75 points per game while giving up 65.33 points per game.  The Warriors are being out-rebounded 38.3 to 37.8.  They are forcing 20.3 turnovers per game while recording 11.3 steals per game.  Kyanna Davis leads the way with her 13.9 scoring and 8.1 rebounding average while Kaleigh Taylor is averaging 13.5 points per game.  Davis also leads the team with her 28 steals, 82% shooting from the line, 21 three's and 39.6% shooting from three-point range.  Angelica Baylon leads Stanislaus State with her 57 assists while Taylor is shooting a team best 55.6% from the field.
 
Since January 25, 2007, Humboldt State leads the all-time series 21-6 with the Warriors.  HSU has won four of the last five meetings including both games last season.  The Lumberjacks won 67-61 in Arcata on Dec. 8, 2018 and 65-58 in Turlock on Feb. 7, 2019.
