ARCATA, Calif. — The Humboldt State men's basketball team prepares for a Southern California road trip for games against Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Cal State Los Angeles Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Lumberjacks are 16-10 overall and 10-8 when facing California Collegiate Athletic Association opponents. Currently fifth in the standings, HSU is still in the mix for one of the top four seeds in the upcoming CCAA Tournament which would guarantee a home game in the first round on March 5.

The North Coast squad dropped a disappointing game to Cal Poly Pomona before salvaging its weekend with a 53-49 victory over Cal State San Bernardino last Saturday. HSU boasts the highest scoring offense in all of the CCAA averaging 79.3 points per game. Senior forward Justin Everett leads the way with 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while shooting 51.6 percent from the field. Senior forward Calvin Young has recorded 26 blocks in the same number of games as he looks to continue denying opponents at the rim.

"Cal State Dominguez Hills is a very good team," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "They're ranked second in the conference when it comes to 3-point shooting so we have to be able to guard the 3-point line, something we haven't done very well this year. We will be challenged with getting back in defensive transition and guarding the line. We need to be able to score on the road consistently for 40 minutes. We certainly have shown we can be dominant inside when we play well by getting the ball into the interior and playing out to our shooters."

After falling to UC San Diego in overtime, Cal State Dominguez Hills finished its weekend with a 69-66 victory over Cal State San Marcos. The Toros are 12-11 overall and their 10-8 mark in CCAA competition has them ranked sixth in the conference standings, right behind Humboldt State. Guards Wonder Smith and Colton Kresl represent the Toros one-two punch on offense as they average 12.5 and 12.1 points per game, respectively. Senior guard David Howard is the team's best rebounder and averages 5.5 boards per game.

Cal State Los Angeles enters the week after falling to Cal State San Marcos before defeating UC San Diego 76-61 to wrap up the weekend. The Golden Eagles hold a 14-11 overall record and a 10-9 mark in CCAA play. Junior guard Fard Muhammad is LA's best offensive weapon as he averages 11.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Junior forward Ja'Sean Lewis is the best shot blocker in the conference, averaging 2.4 per game, and he ranks fourth in rebounds with 7.5 per contest.
