Softball Hosts SF State in Friday Tripleheader

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State softball team will host San Francisco State in a tripleheader Friday at the McKinleyville High School Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.

It's been a busy week for the Lumberjacks who logged four games on the road against Chico State Monday and Tuesday. HSU went 1-3 against its rival and has a 3-4 overall record heading into Friday's three-game series with its Bay Area visitors.

Through seven games, second baseman Danica Grier continues to rake for the North Coast squad. The sophomore has four multi-hit outings and is batting a team-best .462. Seniors Rylie Carlier and Hanna Holland are still waiting to break through, but the latter is closing in a prestigious record. Holland has three stolen bases this season and is two shy of tying the California Collegiate Athletic Association career record of 142 set by Cindy Perry of Cal State Dominguez Hills.

A pair of young Lumberjack pitchers shined in the Chico State series. Megan Holt, a freshman of Kelso, Wash., earned her first career victory on Monday, while Chloe Teese tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief Tuesday afternoon.

San Francisco State opened the season with three consecutive wins, but the Gators have been streaking the wrong direction since. Friday's visitors have lost five straight games, their last was a 9-6 decision last Sunday in favor of Sonoma State. Freshman Brylynn Vallejos has been the Gators' top hitter batting .500 in 28 at-bats, and fellow freshman Nina Revoir leads the squad with six RBI.

Junior pitcher Emily Mitchell anchors the pitching staff for Head Coach Alicia Reid, a former Lumberjack and long-time assistant, as she enters her second season leading the Gators. Mitchell has a 1-3 record with two complete games and a 3.12 ERA.
