Softball Hosts Notre Dame de Namur Thursday

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State softball will host Notre Dame de Namur Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at McKinleyville High School.

The Green and Gold are eager to snap their six-game losing streak after being swept in a four-game series versus Cal State Dominguez Hills this past weekend. The Jacks enter the week with a 4-13 record and a 2-12 mark in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

"We definitely aren't giving up and putting our heads down, but there is a problem that we need to fix," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "Whether we fix it right now or in the future it needs to happen. Our offense can put up runs, but our pitching staff is having a little problem keeping runs off the board. They have been showing moments of greatness, but we need to get more consistent and keep the run totals down."

Sophomore third baseman Haley Suter has recorded a hit in the last four consecutive games and tallied seven hits and three RBI versus the Toros. The Roseville, Calif., native leads the team with a .366 batting average. Senior Rylie Carlier has been a nightmare for opposing pitchers and his hitting .326 with 13 RBI and four home runs, which is tied for second-most in the CCAA. Senior center fielder Hanna Holland solidified herself as one of the program's best after swiping her 145th base which tied her career total with the program leader Jamie Peterson set in 1999.

Notre Dame de Namur dropped three straight to Hawaii Hilo last week and was outscored 16-4 in the series. The Argonauts are hungry for their first win of the season as they sit at 0-20 on the year. Sophomore Aurora Adams is hitting a team-high .325 with 13 hits, three RBI, and a .413 on-base percentage.

"It's nice being at home again, but we have some things to work on and we're hoping we can turn the table here pretty soon," said Sarchett. "My girls are still pushing, we have a really good camaraderie going on, we just need to start doing it on the ballfield. When that starts happening good things will start happening but it's time for us to start making some moves."
