Softball Looks to Extend Winning Streak at Stanislaus State

| By:
ARCATA, Calif. – The California Collegiate Athletic Association's hottest team will put its eight-game winning streak on the line this weekend as the Humboldt State softball team travels to Turlock for a four-game series against Stanislaus State. The series begins Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.

Last week, HSU took four games from Cal State San Marcos to earn its first conference sweep since 2017. The North Coast squad improved to 19-23 overall and 10-20 in CCAA play.

"It feels good to get some wins but it feels even better to be on the same page," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "Our pitching staff is keeping opponent's run production down and allowing us to stay in the ball game. Our offense is doing what it has been doing all year long, putting runs on the board. It's nice to see both sides of the ball working together."

The Lumberjacks are batting .295 as a squad and rank third in the CCAA with 1,093 runs, 22 home runs, and 176 RBIs. Micaela Harris was tabbed the CCAA Player of the Week after hitting .462 with six hits, four RBIs, two stolen bases, and five runs scored. The team hits leader Danica Grier turned in an impressive day two at the plate, hitting a pair of round-trippers while driving in four runs in the final double-header.

Lexee Sheiring earned her seventh and eighth victory of the year after tossing two complete games over the weekend. The Lincoln, Calif., native logged 14 innings with 12 strikeouts while only allowing a single walk. Jasmine Hill also finished the weekend with a pair of wins in the circle. Hill pitched one inning of scoreless relief in game two, before tossing five innings of five-hit ball as the senior held on for the complete game shutout.

"We're headed to Stanislaus, and they are right in front of us in the rankings," said Sarchett. "We have another opportunity to come home with some wins and keep our playoff chance alive, even though it is an outside chance, we still have our hopes. Everyone in this league is tough. We are going to be playing under the lights, which we haven't done since the beginning of the season, but it's just another day to go out there and play some softball and hopefully keep this momentum we built up going."

The Warriors (18-29, 11-21 CCAA) won their series opener versus Chico State last week before dropping the next three. Stanislaus State has struggled offensively this season as the team is hitting a conference-low .240. Aliyah Garvin is the only Warrior hitting above .300 as she leads the team with 48 hits and 21 RBIs.
