ARCATA, Calif..--- Despite
Zachariah Christian tying his career high with 20 points, Cal State East Bay rallied to defeat the Humboldt State Lumberjacks 85-74. Besides Christian's 20 points,
Rob Lewis added 15 points while
Leland Green added 12 points and
Arash Poorsina scored 11 points for the 'Jacks.
FIRST HALF: A
Leland Green three off of one Isiaah Pope's season high eight assists gave Humboldt State an early 9-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game. A lay-up by Nai Carlisle cut HSU's lead to 14-10 at the 14:55 mark of the first half. The Lumberjacks came right back with a 6-0 run capped by an
Arash Poorsina lay-up off an assist by Pope. Twice Cal State East Bay (11-8, 7-6 CCAA) cut the 'Jack lead to five including 22-17 with 11:433 left in the first half. A jumper by
Amari Green gave HSU a 26-17 lead, but a jumper by Zafir Williams capped a 4-0 run by the Pioneers as they cut HSU's lead to 26-21. Back to back jumpers by Pope and Green increased HSU's lead to double digits (40-30) with a little under two minutes left in the first stanza. Cal State East Bay cut the hosts' lead to 44-38 heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: A three by Trent Warren made it 44-41 Humboldt State in the first minute of the second half. A three by
Leland Green off a pass from
Rob Lewis capped a 13-1 run by the Lumberjacks as they took a 57-45 lead five minutes into the second half. Two made free throws by Josh Dhatt cut the 'Jack lead to 57-51, but HSU increased its lead to 64-57 mid-way through the second half on a three-point play by
Arash Poorsina. Twice in the next two minutes, the Pioneers cut the HSU lead to two including with 8:28 left on a lay-up by Jesse Galloway. Cal State East Bay took a 74-72 lead on a jumper by Zafir Williams with 4:51 left in the game. HSU came right back and tied the game at 74-74 on a lay-up by
Zachariah Christian. The visitors finished the game on an 11-0 run to take the game 85-74.
CHRISTIAN: Zachariah Christian tied his career high with 20 points this evening. He went 10-for-13 from the field and had eight rebounds while blocked two shots.
THREE OTHERS IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Three other Lumberjacks scored in double digits in
Rob Lewis with 15 points,
Leland Green with 12 points and
Arash Poorsina's season high 11 points.
20 ASSISTS: Humboldt State (7-11, 3-10 CCAA) had 20 assists as a team this evening paced by
Isaiah Pope's season high eight.
Rob Lewis and
Jackson Strong each had five assists while
Zachariah Christian and
Leland Green each had one.
BLOCK THAT SHOT: The Lumberjack had six blocked shots this evening paced by
Zachariah Christian with two.
