DENVER, Colo.--- Humboldt State's
Haley Suter went four-for-four while driving in seven runs and scoring three times. Five of her runs batted in came on a two-run home run and a three-run home run as the Lumberjacks took the night cap of today's doubleheader 15-4 in five innings. Humboldt State lost the opener 15-7 (five innings) despite Suter,
Katelyn Dendas and
Danica Grier going a combined four-for-seven, scoring six runs, hitting two home runs and drive in four runs.

Shelli Sarchett. "There were some good and there were some bad but this season is a marathon not a race. This a long season and as long as we get better everyday and continue to develop our weaknesses and highlight our strengths we are going to be fine. We know we have things to work on and we know we are still figuring out what we are capable of and what we can do as a team when the chips are down."
GAME ONE:
Danica Grier's two-run home run in the top of the first inning of game one gave the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead. Metropolitan State University of Denver (1-1) took a 3-2 lead in its half of the first inning on an Olivia Dampier three-run home run. Humboldt State retook the lead, 4-3, with two runs in the top of the third inning as the 'Jacks took advantage of two Roadrunner errors.
The Lumberjacks didn't have the lead for long as Laney Sheppard tied the game in the Roadrunner half of the third on a solo home run. HSU retook the lead, 7-4, with a three-run fourth inning with two of the runs coming on a two-run home run by
Katelyn Dendas.
The Roadrunners took the lead (10-7), for good with a six-run fourth inning with three of the runs coming on a three-run home run by Sheppard. The hosts closed out the game with a five-run fifth inning to take the opener 15-7 in five innings.
HUMBOLDT STATE GAME ONE LEADERS: HSU had five hits in the opener with
Katelyn Dendas going two-for-three with two runs batted in and scoring twice.
Danica Grier also had two runs batted in while Grier and
Haley Suter each scored two runs.
Megan Escobar (0-1) took the loss in relief while
Taylor Culp recorded the no-decision.
METROPOLITAN STATE GAME ONE LEADERS: Laney Sheppard went three-four-four, driving in five runs and scoring twice while Olivia Dampier went three-for-four with four runs batted in. Kayla Banks (1-0) picked up the win in relief while Darby McGhee had the no-decision.
GAME TWO: Once again, Humboldt State (1-1) took the early lead. The Lumberjacks took a 2-0 lead on a two-out two-run home run by
Haley Suter in the top of the first inning. The hosts cut the deficit to 3-2 with a two-run inning in the bottom of the inning.
Humboldt State increased its lead to 8-2 with a five-run second inning.
Lauren Lipe started the inning with a triple and scored on an infield single by
Jenna Sobrero. Suter once again had the big hit in the inning with a three-run home run. The 'Jacks finished the inning on a single by
Mariah Tovar which drove in
Micaela Harris.
The hosts cut the Lumberjack lead to 8-3 with a run in the second inning. HSU came right back with a run of its own on a two-out single by
Adriana Chavez which brought in Lipe to increase the 'Jack lead to 9-3 in the top of third inning.
Humboldt State took a 15-3 lead with a six-run fifth inning. The inning was capped by a two-run double by Suter and a two-run single by Harris. The Roadrunners only scored once in their half of the fifth inning as the 'Jacks took the night cap 15-4.
HUMBOLDT STATE GAME TWO LEADERS:

Megan Holt (1-0) picked up the win, pitching five innings giving up seven hits and four runs (three runs) while striking out one and walking four.
METROPOLITAN STATE GAME TWO LEADERS: The Roadrunners were paced by Laney Sheppard and Kayla Banks each with two hits. Destinee Lopez suffered the loss.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will continue its Colorado trip tomorrow morning with an 11am starting doubleheader in Golden, Colo., against Colorado School of Mines. The 'Jacks will finish off their trip with an 11am single game on Sunday at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
