Lumberjacks Look To Move Up in the Standings

ARCATA, Calif..---  Humboldt State's women's basketball team is currently in seventh place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings heading into its upcoming three-game road trip.  After going 2-0 this past weekend, HSU is 9-9 in the CCAA just one game out of sixth place (Stanislaus State) and 1.5 games out of fifth place (Sonoma State).
 
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAME:  Humboldt State started its week with a 72-69 win over the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos this past Thursday.  The Lumberjacks had three players in double digits in Alexia Thrower with 24 points and Gabrielle Carbajal and Tyra Turner each with 16 points. The 'Jacks defeated Cal State San Bernardino 107-62 on Saturday as the 'Jacks made 19 of their 36 three's.  Five players scored in double digits in Alexia Thrower (28 points), Madeline Hatch (20 points), Sandin Kidder (17 points), Gabrielle Carbajal (17 points) and Emily Packham (11 points). 
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State enters its three-game road trip with a 13-10 overall record and a 9-9 CCAA record.  The 'Jacks are averaging 69.8 points per game while giving up 65.6 points per game.  They are being out-rebounded 37.3 to 31.9.  Four players are scoring in double digits in Alexia Thrower (21.7 ppg), Tyra Turner (10.9 ppg), Gabrielle Carbajal (10.6 ppg) and Molly Dixon (10.3 ppg).  Madeline Hatch is right behind those four with her 9.5 scoring average.  Thrower leads HSU with her 9.8 rebounding average, 53% shooting from the field and 11 blocked shots.  Turner has dished out a team leading 107 assists while recording a team high 39 steals and shooting a team leading 80% from the line.  Dixon and Hatch lead the team with their 44 treys while Dixon is shooting a team leading 37% from beyond the arc.
 
NATION'S LEADERS:  I The Humboldt State Lumberjack duo of Alexia Thrower and Tyra Turner are still among the leaders in NCAA Division II in scoring, rebounding and assists.  Thrower is 10th in scoring average, 22nd in total rebounds and 29th in rebounding average.  Turner is 24th in assists per game, 28th in total assists and 37th in assist to turnover ratio. 
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Tyra Turner is moving on up the career lists at Humboldt State.  She is second in assists (492), third in steals (223), sixth in free throws made (268) and seventh in points (1110).  Madeline Hatch is sixth with her 140 threes made in her career.  Alexia Thrower has scored 978 points and grabbed 503 rebounds.  She is ninth in points on HSU's all-time list
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Four Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in Alexia Thrower, Tyra Turner , Sandin Kidder and Gabrielle Carbajal.  Thrower has nine double-doubles while Carbajal, Kidder and Turner each have one.
 
11.5: Humboldt State is just turning the ball over 11.5 times per game while forcing 16.1 turnovers per game by its opponents.  The Lumberjacks are recording 7.1 steals per game paced by Tyra Turner's 39 followed by Alexia Thrower's 35.  Molly Dixon has 23 steals with Gabrielle Carbajal with 22 and Madeline Hatch with 30.
 
13.2:  The Lumberjacks are averaging 13.2 assists per game paced by Tyra Turner's 107 with only 53 turnovers.  Gabrielle Carbajal has 63 assists with just 32 turnovers. In HSU's win over CSUSB this past Saturday, the 'Jacks dished out 26 assists on 42 field goals made including Gabrielle Carbajal's nine and Tyra Turner's seven. 
 
GATORS IN REVIEW:  San Francisco State enters its game with the Lumberjacks with a 1-19 overall record and a 1-10 CCAA record.  The Gators are in 13th place in the CCAA while averaging 59.2 points per game and giving up 73.1 points per game.  They are being out-rebounded 42.0 to 36.7.  Five players are averaging double digits in Taimane Lesa-Hardee (11.7 ppg), Jolene Armendariz (11.4 ppg), Madson Corder (11.3 ppg), Ashley Hart (10.8 ppg) and Ashley Gomez (10.1 ppg). 
 
Lesa-Hardee leads the team with her 35 steals, 48 assists and 30 treys while Pickeral-Dennis has a team leading 15 blocked shots and 8.6 rebounding average.  Corder leads SFSU with her 78% free throw percentage and Muirae Gomez has a team leading 47% shooting from the field. 
 
Since 2006, HSU leads the all-time series 21-4 including winning the last nine in a row.  The Lumberjacks won the first meeting between the teams in Arcata 71-59 with Alexia Thrower leading the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Tyra Turner had 12 points and 10 assists. 
 
SEAWOLVES IN REVIEW:  Sonoma State enters its game on Thursday with 14-8 overall record and a 10-7 CCAA record, which places them in fifth place just one game out of third place (Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State East Bay). 
 
The Seawolves are averaging 61 points per game while giving up 57.4 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 38 to 31.6.  Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in Ugochi Andokem 13.3 points per game and Kylie Kiech 12.3 points per game.  Andokem also leads the team with her 54% shooting from the field and 13 blocked shots while Kiech is shooting a team leading 86% from the line and has made a team leading 29 treys.  Serena Santos has dished out a team high 53 assists while recording a team best 26 steals along with Sophie Northern.
 
HSU leads the all-time series 20-6 since 2006 with the 'Jacks winning in December in Arcata 64-56.  Alexia Thrower had a game high 33 points while Sophie Northern had 19 points.
