Humboldt State Returns Home To Entertain The Broncos and The Coyotes

ARCATA, Calif..---  The Humboldt State's women's basketball team will return home to Lumberjack Arena this weekend to entertain Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino.  The Lumberjacks will host Cal Poly Pomona this Thursday, February 6 at 5:30pm on Faculty/Appreciation Night.  Then on Saturday, February 8 at 5:30pm, HSU will host Cal State San Bernardino.  This will be Black Out Night as fans will be encouraged to wear black in appreciation of Black History Month.  Also, fans are encouraged by bring canned food goods for the Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Annual Canned Food Good Drive.
 
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAME:  Humboldt State lost at UC San Diego 81-69 this past Thursday evening despite Alexia Thrower's team high 25 points while Tyra Turner chipped in 20 points for the 'Jacks.  On Saturday evening in San Marcos, HSU lost 81-70 to Cal State San Marcos as Thrower paced the 'Jacks with 24 points.  Molly Dixon added 18 points and Gabrielle Carbajal scored 11 points for Humboldt State.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State enters its two-game home stand with an 11-10 overall record and a 7-9 CCAA record.  The Lumberjacks are in ninth place in the CCAA, just .062 percentage points of eighth place (Cal State Dominguez Hills).  They are averaging 67.9 points per game while giving up 65.6 points per game.  HSU is being out-rebounded 37.6 to 31.6.  Four players are averaging double digits in Alexia Thrower (21.4 ppg), Tyra Turner (10.8 ppg), Molly Dixon (10.8 ppg) and Gabrielle Carbajal (10.0 ppg).  Thrower leads the team with her 9.5 rebounding average, 11 blocked shots and 52.6% shooting from the field.  She is tied with Turner for the team lead in steals with 35.  Turner leads HSU with her 93 assists while Molly Dixon has connected on a team high 41 treys. Dixon also leads the team with her 36.9% shooting from three-point range. 
 
AMONGST THE CCAA'S LEADERS:  In the latest California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) statistics report, Alexia Thrower is first in scoring, second in rebounding, third in field goal percentage, seventh in free throw percentage and ninth in steals.  Tyra Turner is second in assists and fifth in assist/turnover ratio while Madeline Hatch is fourth in three-point field goals made per game and fifth in three-point field goal percentage.  Molly Dixon is eighth in three-point field goals made per game.
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Tyra Turner is moving on up the career lists at Humboldt State.  She is second in assists (478), third in steals (219), seventh in free throws made (261) and seventh in points (1087).  Madeline Hatch is ninth with her 132 threes made in her career.  Alexia Thrower has scored 928 points and grabbed 478 rebounds. 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Three Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in Alexia Thrower, Tyra Turner and Gabrielle Carbajal.  Thrower has seven double-doubles including one each of the Lumberjacks' last three games while Turner and Carbajal each have one.
 
11.4:: Humboldt State is just turning the ball over 11.4 times per game while forcing 16.3 turnovers per game by its opponents.  The Lumberjacks are recording 7.1 steals per game paced by Alexia Thrower and Tyra Turner each with 35 followed by Gabrielle Carbajal with 21 and Molly Dixon with 20.  Madeline Hatch has 18 steals.
 
12.5:  The Lumberjacks are averaging 12.5 assists per game paced by Tyra Turner's 93 assists. 
 
BRONCOS IN REVIEW:  Cal Poly Pomona is 14-7 overall and 10-5 in the CCAA, which places them tied for third place with Cal State East Bay just 2.5 games out second place and three out of first place.  The Broncos are averaging 68.0 points per game while giving up 63.9 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 39.7 to 37.0.
 
Kasey Smit leads CPP with her 13.3 scoring average and 8.4 rebounding average along with 27 blocked shots.  Sheridan Glover is shooting a team high 55% from the field while Jayda Villareal leads CPP with her 40 treys while Aya League is shooting a team high 56.7% from three's.  Lauryn Catching is shooting a team high 82.1% from the line.  Jackie Ricketson has a team high 111 assists and is tied with Villareal for the team lead in steals each with 30.
 
The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 13-13 since 2006.  HSU won the first meeting this season 73-70 in Pomona on December 5 behind Alexia Thrower's 25 points.  Dominique Dotson paced the Broncos with 15 points.
 
COYOTES IN REVIEW:  Cal State San Bernardino is 3-15 overall and 3-12 in the CCAA which places them in 12th place.  The Coyotes are averaging 58.2 points per game while giving up 69.8 points per game.  They are being out-rebounded 41.6 to 36.6. 

Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Kayla Bibb (12.3 ppg), Tehya Burroughs (10.8 ppg) and Ashlynn Sharp (10.8 ppg).  Bibb leads the team with her 50% shooting from the field and 7.3 rebounding average.  Sharp has made a team high 37 treys while Tatianna Russell has connected on a team high 35% of her attempts from beyond the arc.  Emily Herring leads CSUSB with her 86% shooting from the line.  Nina Wallace has a team leading 39 assists and 20 steals.   
 
HSU leads the all-time series 17-10 including winning five of the last six meetings.
