ARCATA, Calif..--- After starting their 2020 season in Colorado this past weekend, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks begin California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play with a four-game series at Cal State San Marcos this Friday-Saturday, February 7-8. Game times are noon for Friday's doubleheader and 11am for Saturday's doubleheader. The Lumberjacks enter CCAA play with an 1-2 record after their three-game series at Metropolitan State University of Denver.
RECAP OF COLORADO: Humboldt State went 1-2 in its three games in the State of Colorado against Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Lumberjacks had their scheduled doubleheader at Colorado School of Mines cancelled because of the extreme windy conditions in Golden, Colo., this past Saturday.
HSU started its 2020 season with a 15-7 (five inning) loss to the Roadrunner this past Friday.
The 'Jacks had five hits in their opener paced by the trio of
Katelyn Dendas,
Danica Grier and
Haley Suter who went a combined four-for-seven with four runs batted in while six of HSU's seven run. Dendas and Grier each hit home runs. The Lumberjacks came back and won the night cap 15-4 in five innings behind
Haley Suter's four-for-four game. She drove in seven runs and scored three runs and hit two home runs.
Mariah Tovar went two-for-four and drove in two runs and
Lauren Lipe had two hits and scored three times.
Megan Holt picked up first win of the season in the start for HSU.
In the series finale on Sunday, HSU lost 13-5 in five innings. Mariah Tover hit a solo home run while
Micaela Harris had two of the Lumberjacks' eight hits.
LUMBERJACK LEADERS: Haley Suter leads the 'Jacks with her .714 batting average, 1.714 slugging percentage, eight runs batted in, 12 total bases and two home runs.
Katelyn Dendas has posted a team high .778 on-base percentage and is tied with.
Danica Grier and Suter for the team lead with five runs scored. Three 'Jacks had one double apiece in Suter, Dendas and
Mariah Tovar. Over in the circle,
Taylor Culp has a team leading five strikeouts while
Megan Holt has HSU's victory and pitched a team leading 6.2 innings.
UPDATE ON CAL STATE SAN MARCOS: Cal State San Marcos is 2-3 after its five games in the Concordia-Irvine Kickoff Classic this past weekend. The Cougars defeated Western Washington 6-1 and Hawai'i Pacific 12-3 while they lost 1-0 to No. 10 Concordia-Irvine, 4-3 to Azusa Pacific and 6-5 to Biola.
Nikki Andelin has a team leading .417 batting average while Cherise Horita has a team leading .880 slugging percentage. Bianca Gutierrez and Andelin each have scored a team leading six runs while Andrea Wood has driven in a team high eight runs. Jamie Poncoe has a team low 1.00 earned run average and Zoe Ballen has a team leading two victories and elven strikeouts.
