CARSON, Calif--- The 25
th ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills scored three unanswered goals including two in the second half to key their 3-1 win over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks.
Yushi Kato scored the Lumberjacks' first goal in the sixth minute off a ball from
Nico Herrera Land. The Toros scored their first goal with five minutes left in the half and added two more in the final 20 minutes to give them the 3-1 win.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-1-1, 3-0 CCAA) had a chance for the early lead in just the second minute but Michael Vega's shot on goal attempt was stopped by HSU's
Adrian Gallardo. Four minutes later, the 'Jacks took the 1-0 lead on a goal by
Yushi Kato off a missed shot by
Nico Herrera Land. The 'Jacks had a chance to double their lead in the 29
th minute, but Herrera Land's shot sailed over the net. Gallardo recorded another save in the 34
th minute, this time off the foot of Alfred Garcia. The Toros tied the match at 1-1 in the 41stminute on a goal by Brandon Lee off a ball from David Aguilar. The Toros had a chance to take the lead, but Gallardo stopped their attempt as the match went tied at 1-1 into the half.
SECOND HALF: Marco Silveira had a chance to give the 'jacks back the lead in the 54
th minute, but his shot sailed wide of the net. Herrera Land had another chance for a goal and to give HSU the lead but his shot sailed over the net in the 61
st minute. With 23 minutes left in regulation,
Christian Gonzalez had a chance for his first goal of the season be stopped by the Toros' Dylan De Baldo. The Toros took the lead, 2-1, in the 72
nd minute on a goal by Alberto Carrillo off an assist from Bryan Rodriguez and Sulaiman Bah. Ramiro Rosa looked like he was going to tie the match at 2-2 for the 'Jacks, but his shot sailed high in the 82
nd minute. The hosts sealed the match in the 83
rd minute on a goal by Bah off a ball from Aguilar and Lee. Humboldt State (6-2-1, 0-2-1 CCAA) had a chance to cut into the deficit but Herrera Land's shot was stopped by De Baldo late in the match as CSUDH took the 3-1 victory.
GOALKEEPER: Adrian Gallardo had six saves in goal for the 'Jacks while De Baldo had four saves in goal for the hosts.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will continue its three-match road trip this Sunday, October 10 at 11:30am, when the 'Jacks take on Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters defeated Chico State 1-0 this evening in Seaside.
