SEASIDE, Calif--- Humboldt State's goalkeeper
Adrian Gallardo recorded 11 saves in this afternoons' Lumberjacks 1-1 double overtime tie match at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Christian Gonzalez scored HSU's goal late in the first half off a corner kick from
Marco Silveira. This was Gonzalez's first goal of the season and Silveira's seventh assist of the season.
FIRST HALF: Cal State Monterey Bay (5-2-3, 1-2-1 CCAA) had the match's first chance to take the lead in the 15
th minute when Javier Romero's shot was stopped by Gallardo. Gallardo made another save with five minutes left in the half, this time off a ball from Alexis Sanchez. With less than 15 seconds left in the half,
Christian Gonzalez scored off a penalty kick to give the 'Jacks the 1-0 lead heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: The Otters had a chance to tie the match in the 57
th minute, but Gallardo made another one of his 11 saves when he stopped Adrian Rebollar's shot on goal attempt. Two minutes, Gallardo made another key save this time off the foot of Pedro Hernandez. The 'Jacks had a chance to double their lead in the 62
nd minute when Silveira's shot sailed right of the goal. Janos Kimmerling had two chances to tie the match for the hosts but Gallardo stopped both of them. CSUMB did tie the match though on its next possession as Hernandez connected on a ball from Antonio Ordonez in the 69
th minute. The 'Jacks had a chance to take the lead, but
Ramiro Rosas' shot sailed high over the net with four minutes left in regulation. It looked like the Otters were going to win with two minutes, but Gonzalez stopped Rebollar's attempt as the match went into overtime.
OVERTIME: In the first overtime, Humboldt State had a chance for the golden goal when
Edgar Castaneda's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Adrian Munoz. This was the only shot on goal attempt in the first overtime as the match went into the second overtime. In the second overtime, Marcus Decouto had a chance for the golden goal but Gallardo recorded his 11
th save to end the match in a 1-1 double overtime tie.
GOALKEEPER: Adrian Gallardo recorded a season high 11 saves for the 'Jacks. For the season he has posted a 0.53 goals against average with a .881 saves percentage. He has six shutouts this season with 37 saves. Gallardo is tied for second on HSU's single season list with six shutouts this season.
GONZALEZ-SILVEIRA: Christian Gonzalez connected on his first goal as a 'Jack today off a corner kick from
Marco Silveira. Besides his stellar play on defense, Gonzalez also scored HSU's goal. Silveira recorded his CCAA leading seventh assist of the season today. He now has 21 for his career, which places him tied for second with Billy Hansen on HSU's all-time assist list.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will end its three-match road trip this Thursday, October 14 at 7pm, when the 'Jacks travel to Turlock, Calif., for a CCAA match with Stanislaus State. The Lumberjacks will return home a week from today at 2pm, when they host Cal State East Bay at College Creek Field.
