ARCATA, Calif..--- Cal State Los Angeles defeated the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in three sets (23-25, 12-25, 14-25) on Senior Night for the 'Jacks at Lumberjack Arena. Prior to the match, HSU recognized both teams' seniors including its five in
Hannah Cantrell,
Carla Crespo,
Lenox Loving,
Jasmine McNeal and Crista Pilgrim.
FIRST SET: The Golden Eagles took an early 8-3 lead in the first set, but the 'Jacks scored four of the next fie points to cut the deficit to 9-7. Three consecutive kills by the 'Jacks including back to back by Crista Pilgrim to tie the match at 12-12. A
Malia Coyle block capped a three-point rally by the hosts as they took a 20-17 lead. Cal State Los Angeles (17-8, 13-5 CCAA) came right back and scored five of the next six points to take a 22-21 lead. A kill by
Malia Coyle off an assist from Hanna Cantrell tied the match at 22-22. The guests scored three of the final four points to take the first set 25-22.
SECOND SET: Cal State Los Angeles jumped out to a 10-5 lead on block by Emily Elliott. They increased their lead to 17-10 on a kill by Alejandra Negron. A kill by
Lindsey McLaughlin off a pass from
Riley Tishlarich cut the visitors' lead to 19-12. The Golden Eagles scored the final six points to take the second set 25-12 and to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
THIRD SET: The Golden Eagles kept their momentum in the third set as they took a 7-1 lead. A service ace by
Lindsey McLaughlin cut HSU's deficit to 11-7. Cal State Los Angeles came right back and increased its lead to 20-12. A kill by
Hannah Cantrell off a pass from
Riley White cut the deficit to 21-14. The guests finished the set off by scoring the final four points to take the third set 25-14 and the match 3-0.
FOURTH SET: Just like the third set, the fourth set was even until Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 16-12 lead. A kill by Coco Ikpe increased the Toro lead to 21-16, but the 'Jacks would not go away. A service ace by
Riley White capped six straight points by the 'Jacks. Neither wanted the set until a kill by Nicole Perry tied the set at 25-25 for the Toros. CSUDH took the set and the match as the Toros took the final two points on a block by Renee Wheeler and a Peery kill.
LEADERS: Humboldt State (3-18, 2-16 CCAA) was paced by
Lindsey McLaughlin with eight kills and 13 digs.
Riley White had 13 assists. McLaughlin and
Hannah Cantrell each had two service aces.
