ARCATA, Calif---  Humboldt State Lumberjacks outscored their guests 21-10 to key their 66-49 win over the Dominican Penguins in their home opener of the 2021-22 season.  
Madison Parry had a season high 22 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season to lead the way for the victors. 
Kaz Parks chipped in 17 points and seven assists for the hosts while 
Julia Iman added 10 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER: The 'Jacks started the game on a mini 5-0 run in the first two minutes of the game.  Two free throws by 
Madison Parry increased the hosts' lead to 12-5 mid-way through the quarter.  Dominican (3-4) finished the quarter outscoring HSU 12-4 to take a 17-16 lead capped by a Camryn Figueroa lay-up. 
 
 
SECOND QUARTER:  A three by 
Kaz Parks off a pass from 
Julia Iman gave the hosts a 19-17 lead to begin the second quarter.  Humboldt State (1-3) increased its lead to 27-22 on an Iman fast-break lay-up off a pass from 
Ashley Peralta with 3:30 left in the half.  The Penguins finished the quarter on a 4-0 run to cut the Lumberjack lead to 27-26 heading into the locker room at the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  Dominican continued its run of the second quarter in the third as the Penguins took a 31-27 lead.  The 'Jacks finished the quarter outscoring their guests 21-5 to take a 48-36 lead heading into the final ten minutes.  In the third quarter, HSU shot 50% from the field and from three's while holding the Penguins to just 14% shooting.  The 'Jack defense forced five turnovers and held a 21-10 advantage on the board.  
Madison Parry scored seven of her game high 22 points.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  The 'Jacks kept their surge going outscoring 9-3 in the first 3:30 minutes of the final quarter to take a 57-39 lead.  Dominican cut the Lumberjack lead to 59-47 with 2:09 left in the game.  Humboldt State finished the game outscoring the Penguins 7-2 to take the 66-49 non-conference victory.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE:  Madison Parry joined 
Julia Iman, who recorded a double-double in HSU's loss at Dominican on Nov. 17, as the Lumberjacks to record a double-double this season.  Parry scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while dishing out three assists and recording three steals.  She also had two blocked shots.  The freshman went nine-for-18 from the field while make two of her attempts from the arc and going two-for-two from the line.
ALSO, A SEASON HIGH:  Kaz Parks dished out a season high seven assists this afternoon to go with her season highs in points (17) and rebounds (nine).  Parks went six-for-13 from the field including four-of-nine from three-point land.
 
DISH ME THE BALL: Humboldt State had 20 assists this afternoon with 
Kaz Parks' seven leading the way.  Three players had three assists each in 
Madison Parry, 
Ashley Peralta and 
Julia Iman. 
 
DEFENSE: HSU's defense held Dominican to just 27% shooting from the field including 5% from three-point range.  The Lumberjacks forced 13 turnovers including six by steals (three by 
Madison Parry and one each by 
Sharon Roldan, 
Julia Iman and 
Jadence Clifton).
 
REVENGE: Humboldt State avenged a 72-70 loss at Dominican in San Rafael on November 17. 
 
UP NEXT:  HSU will begin CCAA play this week with two home games on December 2 and 4.  The 'Jacks will host SF State on December 2 and Cal State Monterey Bay on December 4. Tip-off for both games are set for 5:30pm.
