CHICO, Calif. Jacob Chong's goal in the 28
th minute off a ball from Adrian Fontanelli proved to be the game-winner in Chico State's 1-0 victory over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks in both team's regular season finale. With the loss, the Lumberjacks end their season with a 10-5-2 overall record including with a 4-5-2 record in the CCAA.The 10 wins are the most since 2006.
FIRST HALF: The 'Jacks had a chance to take the lead in the 23
rd minute when
Yushi Kato's shot sailed wide right. One minute later,
Marco Silveira had a chance to give the Lumberjacks the lead but his shot went over the goal. The match was scoreless until the 28
th minute when Jacob Chong scored on a ball from Adrian Fontanelli to give Chico State (6-11, 5-6 CCAA) the 1-0 lead. One minute later, Silveira had. Chance to tie the game for HSU but Luis Albarran made a save. The Wildcats had a chance to double their lead but
Adrian Gallardo stopped Noah Chico Ross's shot on goal attempt in the 32
nd minute. Once again, HSU had a chance to tie the game when Marcus Abdel Malek's shot attempt went over the net. It looked like Chico State was going to double its lead when Adrian Fontanelli's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Gallardo to the second the match into the half with the hosts leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt State came out on fire in the second half when
Daniel Adeyeye's shot was stopped by the Wildcat keeper in the 49
th minute. Adeyeye had another chance t tie the match at 1-1 when Albarran stopped his shot on goal attempt in the 60
th minute. HSU had tied the match on a goal by
Edgar Castaneda, but the 'Jacks were called for offsides in the 67
th minute.
Ramiro Rosas and
Dylan Tovani had a chance to give HSU the tying goal but both were stopped by the Wildcat keeper in the 70
th minute. With less than three minutes left in the match, HSU had a chance to tie the match but its penalty kick attempt was stopped by the Wildcat keeper as Chico State took the 1-0 regular season finale.
GOALIES: Adrian Gallardo had four saves in goal for the 'Jacks while Luis Albarran had seven saves in goal for Chico State.
