Lumberjacks’ Rally Falls Short in 51-46 Road Loss to Stanislaus State

TURLOCK, Calif---  The visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks saw their late fourth quarter rally fall short in a 51-46 loss to the Stanislaus State Warriors (9-1, 4-0 CCAA) this evening in a conference game in Turlock, Calif.  The duo of Madison Parry and Julia Iman combined to score 25 points and grab 24 rebounds to lead the way for HSU, who saw its three-game winning streak snapped this evening.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH:  "We clearly didn't have a good offensive night," said head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson.  "In addition to shooting the ball poorly, we didn't have a good shot selection.  Until we learn to put more emphasis, desire and passion on the defensive end of the floor, it will be very tough.  That's on me and I need to do a better job."

FIRST QUARTER:  An Ashley Peralta three off a pass from Kaz Parks gave the 'Jacks a 7-6 lead with 3:45 left in the first quarter.  The Warriors went on a mini-4-0 run to take a 10-7 lead.  Humboldt State (3-4, 2-1 CCAA) finished the quarter with a 7-3 run capped by a jumper by Mariah Barraza to take a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER:  The Lumberjacks increased their lead to 18-13 on a jumper by Madison Parry early in the second quarter.  Stanislaus State went on an 8-0 run in next four minutes to take a 21-18 lead.  A three by Sharon Roldan off a pass from Kaz Parks tied the game at 23-23 heading into the half.

THIRD QUARTER:  The visitors started the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 31-25 lead capped by a three-point play by Julia Iman.  In the next six minutes, Stanislaus State went on a 9-0 run to take a 34-31 lead.  A jumper by Da'Myiah Lewis gave the Warriors a 38-33 lead heading into the final quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER:  Two made free throws by Kyanna Davis increased the hosts' lead to 42-35 just three minutes into the final quarter.  Humboldt State didn't go away as the 'Jacks went on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 44-44 with just 2:16 left in the quarter.  Another free throw by Davis gave the hosts a 45-44 lead, but the 'Jacks took their first lead in the quarter, 46-45) on a jumper by Ashley Peralta on their next possession.  Stanislaus State finished the game going six-for-six from the line and held HSU scoreless to take the 51-46 victory.

DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Julia Iman recorded her third double-double this evening with 11 points and 10 rebounds while Madison Parry had her second with 14 points and 14 rebounds for the 'Jacks.

30-10:  Humboldt State held a 30-10 advantage in points in the paint and an 8-0 advantage in bench points.  The 'Jacks also scored 10 points off the Warriors turnovers this evening.

DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE:  HSU held Stanislaus State to just 24.5% from the field including 20% from three-point land.  The Warriors held the 'Jacks to just 26% from the field and 11% from three-point land.

ROAD TRIP CONTINUES:  Humboldt State will continue its road trip next weekend with two games at Chico State (Dec. 18) and Sonoma State (Dec. 20).  Both games have a scheduled tip-off of 5:30pm.  The 'Jacks will return to Lumberjack Arena in the New Year on January 2 at 1pm, when they entertain Sonoma State.
