ROHNERT PARK, Calif.--- Humboldt State cut Sonoma State's seven-point lead with 3:33 left to just one with less than a minute to go, but it was a little too late as the Seawolves held on for a 54-50 conference victory.
Julia Iman finished the night with her fourth straight double-double and fifth overall with 15 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
Madison Parry also scored 15 points for the 'Jacks and grabbed seven rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER: The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early 6-2 lead just a minute into the game. They increased their lead to 12-5 on a lay-up by
Madison Parry off a pass from
Ashley Peralta with a little under four minutes to go in the quarter. Sonoma State (3-8, 2-3 CCAA) finished the quarter outscoring the 'Jacks 11-7 to cut the HSU lead to 19-16.
SECOND QUARTER: Sonoma State kept its run going into the second quarter outscoring 6-2 to take a 22-21 lead five minutes into the second quarter. A jumper by
Ashley Peralta off a pass from
Sharon Roldan capped a 6-3 mini-run by the 'Jacks to take a 27-25 with just 1:47 left in the half. A Jayme Blackard lay-up gave SSU a 29-27 lead heading into the half.
THIRD QUARTER: The Seawolves increased their lead to 38-29 five minutes into the third quarter. Two
Madison Parry free throws cut HSU's lead to 38-33 with 3:40 left in the quarter. A Shauna Jackson lay-up increased the Seawolves' lead to 42-33, but a three by
Kaz Parks cut the 'Jacks deficit to 42-36. A lay-up by Jackson gave SSU a 44-36 lead heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER: HSU came out on fire to begin the fourth quarter and cut the SSU lead to 44-40 on a
Julia Iman jumper in the paint. Sonoma State came right back and increased its lead to 49-42 with just under three minutes left in regulation. Humboldt State (4-5, 3-2 CCAA) didn't go away as the 'Jacks went on a 6-0 run and cut the HSU deficit to 49-48 on two free throws by
Julia Iman with 55 seconds to go in the game. Sonoma State scored the next five points to take a 53-48 lead. A jumper by Iman off a pass from
Kaz Parks made it 53-50, but SSU's Zane Sheckherd went one of two from the line to seal the 54-50 win for the hosts.
WHAT A WEEKEEND; Julia Iman finished the weekend averaging 24 points and 15.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.5% from the field, 45.5% from three's and seven-for-ten from the line. Iman also had nine assists, two blocked shots and two steals. The junior transfer recorded back to back double-doubles with her fourth and fifth of the season.
15 EACH: Madison Parry and
Julia Iman each had 15 points tonight for the 'Jacks. Parry had seven rebounds and added two assists. Iman had 13 rebounds to go with her 15 points with an assist, two blocked shot and two steals.
11 OF 17: HSU had 11 assists on its 17 made baskets.
Kaz Parks paced the 'Jacks with three assists while
Madison Parry,
Ashley Peralta and
Sharon Roldan each had two.
13 FOR 13: The 'Jacks sent 13 for 13 from the charity stripe.
Madison Parry was nine-for-nine while
Samantha Caires and
Julia Iman each were two-for-two.
