ELLENSBURG, Wash.--- Humboldt State finished off its 14-game road trip with a 10-2 (five inning) loss to Central Washington at Frederick Field in Ellensburg, Wash.
Micaela Harris had two of the Lumberjacks' six hits. Harris also stole her eleventh base of the season.
The Wildcats (13-10) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Allie Thiessen had a lead-off triple and Marlene Carpenter stole second. Thiessen scored on a ground out to the pitcher by Theresa Moyle to give Central Washington the early 1-0 lead. The hosts doubled their lead when Carpenter scored on a Lumberjack wild pitch.
Humboldt State (8-6) tied the game with a two-run second inning.
JoAna Mullins began the inning reaching base when she was hit by a pitch. She scored when
Katelyn Dendas reached on a fielder's choice bunt which there was a Wildcat throwing error. Dendas came around to score on a two-out run scoring single by Harris.
The game remained tied at 2-2 until the Wildcat half of the third. Moyle's two-run home run to left center doubled the hosts' lead to 4-2.
Humboldt State had a chance to cut into the Wildcat lead in its half of the fourth inning. With one out,
Vanessa Saltos doubled to left field and then Harris walked to put the tying run on base. Wildcat starter, Isabel Womack, struck out the next 'Jack batter and induced the final batter to ground out to third base to end the HSU scoring threat.
Central Washington added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The Wildcats broke the game open with a five-run fifth keyed by a two-run home run by Alyssa Benthagen as CWU took the series finale 10-2 in five innings.
Harris the game two-for-two with a run batted in and also stole her 11
th stolen base of the season in as many attempts. Four other HSU batters had a hit in
Danica Grier,
Haley Suter, Mullins and Saltos.
Ava Hand (0-1) suffered the loss in the start for the 'Jacks.
HSU will then be off until April 25 when the Lumberjacks begin a ten-game road trip in the Bay Area. They will face Academy of Art in a four-game series on April 25-26 in Brisbane, Calif., at Mission Blue Field. They will conclude their Bay Area Trip with a six-game series against Dominican (Calif.) on April 28, April 30 and May 1 at Penguin Field in San Rafael, Calif.
