‘Jacks to Host Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona This Weekend

Jadence Clifton and the 'Jacks will host CSUSB and CPP This Weekend
ARCATA, Calif---  After being off since December 20, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks will host a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games this Thursday and Saturday, January 13 and 15 at Lumberjack Arena.  HSU will entertain Cal State San Bernardino this Thursday, January 13 and Cal Poly Pomona this Saturday, January 15. Both contests are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30pm. 
 
COACHING STAFF:  The 'Jacks are coached by sixth-year head coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. Coach Bento-Jackson is 220-193 in her sixteen years as a head coach.  During those 16 years, she also has had four losing seasons including just one at Humboldt State. Prior to being the head coach at HSU, Bento-Jackson was the head coach at Santa Clara and Texas A&M-International.  She is assisted by Humboldt State Alum and former Lumberjack men's basketball player Guillermo Blas. 
 
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: Humboldt State went 1-1 in its last two CCAA contests prior to the Holiday Break.  The 'Jacks defeated rival Chico State 105-96 in triple overtime in Chico on December 18 behind five players in double-digits in scoring led by Julia Iman's 33 points and 18 rebounds.  Ashley Peralta added 22 points, Madison Parry chipped in 20 points and 11 rebounds while Kaz Parks had 18 points and Sharon Roldan scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.  HSU came back two nights later and lost 54-50 at Sonoma State despite Iman and Parry combining for 30 points and 20 rebounds. 
 
UPDATE ON THE 'JACKS:  The Lumberjacks enter this week's games with a 4-5 overall record and a 3-2 CCAA record.  They are averaging 63.1 points while giving up 62.1 points per game. HSU is averaging 63.1 points per game while giving up 62.1 points per game.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Julia Iman (16.0 ppg), Madison Parry (14.7 ppg) and Kaz Parks (10.9 ppg).  Iman leads the team with her 44.2% shooting from the field, 33.3% shooting from three's, 10.6 rebounding average, 16 steals and 29 assists.  She is tied with Parry each with five blocked shots. Parks leads the team with her 21 three's made while Parry is shooting a team best 79.5% from the line. 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLES:  Three Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in Julia Iman, Madison Parry and Sharon Roldan.  Iman has five double-doubles including one in each of the Lumberjacks' last four games.  Parry has three double-doubles and Roldan one.
 
CCAA/NCAA RANKINGS:  As a team, the Lumberjacks are fourth in scoring defense, field goal percentage defense, three's made per game and three-point field goal percentage defense.  They are fifth in steals per game and sixth in assist to turnover ratio.  Julia Iman is second in rebounding, third in scoring, fourth in assists per game and sixth in field goal percentage.  Parry is sixth in rebounding, eighth in scoring and tenth in field goal percentage.  In NCAA statistics, Iman is 22nd in rebounding and 36th in double-doubles. 
 
REGION MATCH-UP  All four non-conference games for the 'Jacks were against NCAA Division II West Region opponents which are very important for rankings.  HSU lost its first two games of the season against two Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (68-56) and Seattle Pacific (54-52) in Seattle, Wash. The 'Jacks went 1-1 against Dominican, who is a member of the PacWest Conference.  They lost 72-70 in San Rafael to the Penguins and defeated them 66-49 in Arcata.  The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
 
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA:  Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena.  The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships.  March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5.  The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.

CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO:  The Coyotes enter tonight's game with a 5-7 overall record and a 2-4 CCAA record.  They defeated SF State on January 8 at home, 68-59.  CSUSB is averaging 59.9 points per game while giving up 65.2 points per game.  The 'Yotes are being out-rebounded 42.7 to 36.7.  Destiny Jackson leads the way with her 13.0 scoring average and 71% shooting from the field.  Samantha Henley has dished out a team leading 42 assists while Jaida Jackson has a team high 17 steals.  Mia Dufresne leads the team with her 14 blocked shot. Henley has made a team high 19 three's while connecting on a team leading 36.5% of her attempts from beyond the arc. Kaelyn Blackwell is shooting a team best 47.6% from the field and 94.7% from the line. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES (HSU vs. CSUSB):  The 'Jacks lead all-time series with Cal State San Bernardino 18-10 including winning the last five meetings in a row.  They defeated the 'Yotes 69-66 on February 6, 2019 and 107-62 on February 8, 2020, with both meetings taking place in Arcata. 
 
CAL POLY POMONA:  The Broncos are 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA heading into their Thursday game at Sonoma State.  Cal Poly Pomona defeated SF State 64-52 at home on January 6.  The Broncos are averaging 67 points per game while giving up 69.3 points per game while being out-rebounded 42.5 to 42.1.  Rebecca Isles leads the team with her 12.3 scoring average followed by Ally Bates at 10.0 points per game.  Jaida Villareal leads the Broncos with her 45.9% shooting from the field, 45.7% shooting from beyond the arc and 21 three's made while Ciara James has a team high 19 blocked shots.  Monica Todd leads CPP with 18 steals and Bates has a team high 74.1% shooting percentage from the line and a team leading 31 assists.  Islais also leads the team with her 5.6 rebound average. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES (HSU vs. CPP):  The 'Jacks lead all-time series with Cal Poly Pomona 14-13 including winning the last three games in a row. HSU won 72-69 on February 6, 2020 in Arcata and 73-70 in Pomona on December 5, 2019.
