ARCATA, Calif--- Humboldt men's basketball team will be back home in the Lumberjack Arena this weekend for a pair of CCAA contests. The 'Jacks will entertain nationally ranked Chico State this Thursday, January 27 and Stanislaus State this Saturday, January 29. Tip-off for both contests are scheduled for 7:30pm.
COACHING STAFF: The 'Jacks are coached by second-year head coach
Tae Norwood. Coach Norwood has a .673 winning percentage during his three years as a head coach. Norwood led the 'Jacks to a 4-5 record during the pandemic season. He came to Humboldt State from Florida, where he guided Keiser University to a 23-7 record during the 2019-20 season including a share of the conference regular season title. Keiser also appeared in the NAIA Tournament.

RECAP OF THE LUMBERJACKS' LAST GAMES: Humboldt went 2-0 last weekend in its two away conference contests. The 'Jacks started the weekend with a 67-63 win at Cal State East Bay.
Jaden Edwards paced Humboldt with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
AJ Sims scored 13 points off the bench for the 'Jacks while
Cam Timmons chipped in 11 points and
Amari Green scored 10 points. The 'Jacks finished the weekend with a 67-45 victory over the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros in Carson on Saturday. Green led the 'Jacks with 14 points while Edwards recorded his eighth double-double and second of the weekend with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance.
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS: Humboldt enters this weekend with a 10-6 overall record and a 4-6 CCAA mark. The 'Jacks are averaging 70.6 points per game while giving up 69.6 points per game. They are out-rebounding their opponents 37.8 to 34.5.
Jaden Edwards leads the way with his 16.7 scoring and 9.8 rebounding averages. Edwards also leads the team with his 38% shooting from three-point land and 20 steals.
Cam Timmons is shooting a team best 53.6% from the field and has blocked a team high 13 shots.
AJ Sims has connected on a team high 23 three-point field goals.
Amari Green has dished out a team leading 45 assists and shooting a team best 79.4% from the line.
DEFENSE WINS: The Lumberjacks held the Toros to just 45 points including 20 in the first half in the 'Jacks 66-45 win on Saturday. CSUDH shot 25% from the field including 16% from three-point range. Humboldt forced 16 turnovers including eight by steals.
Bryce Mitchell and
AJ Sims each had two steals to lead the 'Jacks while
Amari Green,
Jaden Edwards and
Austin Harris each had one steal. For the season, Humboldt is holding its opponents to just 41.8% shooting from the field including 30.9% from three-point range. The 'Jacks are forcing 14.8 turnovers per game.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: In his first season as a 'Jack,
Jaden Edwards has recorded eight double-doubles this season. Edwards' first two came in HSU's first two games versus Western Washington (16 points/14 rebounds) and Simon Fraser (15 points/10 rebounds). On Dec. 2 and Dec. 4, Edwards had an 11 points/11 rebound performance against SF State and a 19 points/12 rebounds effort against CSU Monterey Bay. Edwards' fourth double-double came on December 9 against Simpson in which he scored 41 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He then scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds at Stanislaus State (Dec. 11). Edwards' last two double-doubles came this past weekend at Cal State East Bay (17 points, 11 rebounds) and at Cal State Dominguez Hills (13 points, 12 rebounds).
Cam Timmons recorded his first double-double on January 2 with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance against Sonoma State.
CCAA/NCAA RANKINGS: In the latest CCAA team statistical rankings, the 'Jacks are in the top ten in six categories. They are fourth in rebounding margin (+3.3) and blocked shots per game (2.63) and fifth in rebounding (37.8). Humboldt is also sixth in steals per game (7.38), scoring defense (67.8) and field goal percentage (42.7%).

Cam Timmons are in the top ten in four individual categories. Edwards is second in rebounding (9.8), fourth in scoring (16.7) and field goal percentage (47.7%). Timmons is sixth in blocked shots per game (0.9) and Mitchell is tenth (0.7)

6-0 NON-CONFERENCE (4-0 AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE NCAA DII WEST REGION FOES): Four of HSU's six non-conference games were all NCAA Division II West Region games. HSU started the season with two important wins over Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (70-69) and Simon Fraser (63-59) in Carson, California. The 'Jacks also defeated Western Oregon, 75-67, from the GNAC and Dominican, 74-68, from the PacWest Conference. HSU's other non-conference victories were an 81-78 over Lincoln and an 85-68 win over Simpson. The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
CHICO STATE: Coming into this weekend, the nationally ranked Wildcats are 11-2 overall and 7-2 in the CCAA. They are averaging 74.3 points per game while giving up 63.0 points per game. Chico is out-rebounding its opponents 35.0 to 34.5. Four players are averaging double digits in scoring in Malik Duffy (14.6 ppg), Kevin Warren (13.6 ppg), Isaiah Brooks (11.1 ppg) and Joshua Hamilton (10.4 ppg). Duffy leads the way for Chico with his 44.8% shooting from three-point land, 30 three-point field goals made and 85.7% shooting from the line. Kelvin Wright Jr. has blocked a team high 24 shots while shooting 68% from the field and averaging 8.7 rebounds per game to lead Chico. Brooks has dished out a team leading 44 assists and Warren has recorded a team high 17 steals.
ALL-TIME SERIES (Humboldt vs. Chico): The nationally ranked Wildcats lead the all-time series with the 'Jacks 132-76. Chico has won nine of the last ten meetings between the two teams.
LAST TIME: Chico State won the last game between the two teams 86-60 on December 18, 2021 in Chico. Malik Duffy paced Chico with 22 points and was one of four players to score in double digits for the Wildcats.

STANISLAUS STATE: Heading into their game this Thursday at Sonoma State, the Warriors are 4-9 overall and 1-7 in the CCAA. They have lost of three of their last five games including both this weekend at Cal State Monterey Bay (61-51) and SF State (67-42). Stanislaus State is averaging 59.8 points per game while giving up 65.1 points per game. The Warriors are being out-rebounded 39.7 to 32.3. Tony Singleton leads the way with his 14.8 scoring average, 45% shooting from the field, 36 three-point field goals made and 46% shooting from three-point land. Luis Salgado is shooting a team high 93.8% from the line while Marlon Short is averaging a team high 7.0 rebounds per game. Short also has blocked a team high five shots. Benno Zecic has dished out a team high 64 assists and recorded a team high 27 steals.
ALL-TIME SERIES (Humboldt vs. Stanislaus): Humboldt leads the all-time series 23-8 including winning four of the last six meetings.
LAST TIME: Humboldt defeated the Warriors 66-53 in Turlock on December 11, 2021.

CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA: Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena. The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships. March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5. The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
