ARCATA, Calif--- Humboldt State's head softball coach
Shelli Sarchett has announced the Lumberjacks' 2022 schedule. This year's schedule includes a 36-game California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), which 16 of those will be at home including the home opener on March 4 versus Chico State University.
The Lumberjacks went 8-6 during the pandemic year.
Izzy Starr led the way for the 'Jacks with her .468 batting average, six home runs and .957 slugging percentage. For her efforts, Starr was named to the 2021 NFCA Division II All-American Team. As a team, the 'Jacks batted .339 with five players including Starr hitting over .300 in
Vanessa Saltos (.452),
Micaela Harris (.431), graduated senior
Danica Grier (.413) and
JoAna Mullins (.379).
In the circle,
Karen Di Dio returns after her 4-0 performance last season with a team low 2.33 earned run average.
Emily McAdams posted three wins last season while
Gaige Garcia picked up one win in the circle for HSU.
HSU will open its 2022 campaign with a non-conference West Region doubleheader in the Bay Area at Holy Names University on Feb. 2. They will continue its season beginning road trip with a six-game road trip to the State of Colorado. The 'Jacks will face the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (Feb. 4), Regis University (Feb. 5) and Metropolitan State University of Denver (Feb. 6).
After their trip to Colorado, the Lumberjacks will begin their California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) part of their schedule with a four-game series in Carson, Calif., against Cal State Dominguez Hills (Feb. 18-19). HSU will finish its road trip with a four-game conference series in Hayward, Calif., against Cal State East Bay (Feb. 25-26).
The 'Jacks will have their home opener on March 4 when they host Chico State in a noon starting doubleheader. The series will conclude with an 11am starting doubleheader on March 5. HSU will be back on the road for its next six games. Humboldt State will be in Turlock, Calif., for a four-game series with Stanislaus State (March 11-12) before facing Academy of Art in Brisbane, Calif., for a non-conference doubleheader on March 13.
HSU will return home for a four-game series against Sonoma State, March 19-20. Their final games in March will be in Seaside, Calif., for a four-game series with Cal State Monterey Bay (March 25-26).
The 'Jacks will return to Turlock to begin the month of April participating in the annual Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock April 1-3. Before heading back to Humboldt County, HSU will stop in San Rafael, Calif., for a non-conference doubleheader with Dominican (Calif.) on April 5.
The 'Jacks will be off for 10 days before their next four-game series on April 15-16. The 'Jacks will host Cal State San Bernardino in Arcata for their next four-games.
HSU will be back on the road in the Bay Area for a four-game series in San Francisco against San Francisco State, April 22-23. The 'Jacks will to Arcata for their final four games of the regular season hosting Cal State San Marcos, April 29-30.
The Lumberjacks will look to qualify for the 2022 CCAA Softball Championships, May 5-8 which will be hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif. The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.
The NCAA Division II West Regional will run May 12-14 at a site to be announced with the winner of that to advance to the NCAA Division II Super West Regional, May 19-20. The winner of the Super Regional will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship, May 26-30 in Denver, Colo.
