Jacks Earn First CCAA Win, Blank Warriors 3-0

ARCATA, Calif.--- Juan Perez, Nico Herrera Land and Edgar Gonzalez all scored goals, as the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks shook off some of their offensive cobwebs and shutout Stanislaus State en route to their first conference victory on Friday afternoon at College Creek Field. Adrian Gallardo recorded five saves on the day to keep the Warriors scoreless.

Perez struck first for the Jacks, as the senior forward from Vallejo, Calif. scored his fifth goal of the season off a pass from Dylan Tovani in seventh minute to give Humboldt an early 1-0 lead. The team would've gone up 2-0 in the first half if not for an offsides call in the 15th minute that turned the ball back over to Stanislaus. Adam Mockridge had a pair of shot attempts at 24:23 and 40:15 that both missed the mark as the Warriors were unable to get on the board. Edgar Castaneda's shot and a corner kick in the last minutes closed out the half, as the Jacks entered the locker room carrying a 1-0 advantage.

Humboldt's next goal came at 63:31, when Herrera-Land netted a ball off the crossbar delivered from Motoki Sato to widen the Jacks lead to two. Humboldt would limit Stanislaus to just three shot attempts in the second half while delivering six of their own. The Lumberjacks cemented their victory with just a little over eight minutes remaining in the match with a goal by Gonzalez assisted by Herrera-Land. The Jacks finished the day with their second largest margin of victory this season, defeating Stanislaus 3-0.

With today's win, the Lumberjacks earned their fifth shutout of the season as well as their second highest goal tally (3). The team also earned valuable points as they prepare for the second half of CCAA competition.

Humboldt (2-4-6, 1-2-2 CCAA) travels to Hayward, Calif. to face off against Cal State East Bay (4-5-3, 2-2-1 CCAA) on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2pm.
