Brichta Earns All-Region Honors, Jacks Cap Season at West Region Champs

BILLINGS, Mont.--- Nick Brichta's 25th place finish highlighted a solid morning of action, as the Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's cross country teams closed out their seasons at the NCAA Division II West Region Championships on Saturday morning at Amend Park. Brichta traversed the 10k men's course in a time of 30:54, good enough to snag the last All-Region spot. It is the first time a Lumberjack has earned All-Region honors since 2019. On the team side, the men finished 12th in the region while the women finished their season with a 15th place finish.

Ricardo Torres was the next Jack to cross the finish line, finishing in 36th place with a time of 31:28. Jaxon LeDuc (88th, 32:42), Carson Smith (96th, 32:57) and Carson Cohn (118th, 33:53) rounded out the scoring for Humboldt. Also running for the Jacks were true freshmen Luis Sandoval (121st, 34:00) and Jonah Grubbs (135th, 34:45) who each ran their first 10k at the regional championships.

Simon Fraser's Charlie Dannatt was the individual champion, outlasting Alaska Anchorage's Cole Nash by three seconds to finish with a time of 30:07. The Chico State Wildcats claimed their sixth straight Western Region crown, scoring 48 points to distance themselves from second place Western Washington. Azusa Pacific finished third to clinch the final automatic bid to the national championships in Seattle in December. The Jacks 12th place finish was only two points behind 11th place San Francisco State and 24 points clear of 13th place Western Oregon.

In the women's 6k race, Rosa Granados finished her illustrious Lumberjack cross country career with a 47th place finish in a time of 22:23. She was followed closely by freshman Reese Sion who finished right behind her in 48th with a time of 22:26. Isabel Perez-Zoghbi (86th, 23:03), Sophie Smith (122nd, 23:47) and Jess Hill-Roddick (125th, 23:50) were in the top five for the Jacks while Kayla Penny (155th, 24:56) and Alexa Amador (162nd, 25:20) rounded out the team's finishers.
