SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- On Thursday evening, Cal Poly Humboldt started their final road trip of the season with a stop at Cal State San Marcos. After the Lumberjacks claimed the first set 25-21, the Cougars of San Marcos responded by taking sets two (25-21) and three (25-19). The Jacks found themselves with their backs against the wall and down 23-19 before going on a 6-0 run to close out set four with a final score of 25-23. Although Humboldt forced a fifth set, the Cougars scrapped a 15-4 victory and won the match three sets to two.
Lindsey McLaughlin led all players with a season-high 18 kills. She also added three blocks on the defensive side of the ball.
Mina Barajas recorded her first double-double of the season, notching 13 kills and 12 digs. Cecillia Costa had seven total blocks (two solo), which is the most any Lumberjack has had in a single match all season.
Kaitlyn Patterson led the Jacks with 23 digs, while
Macy Thomas added 13 digs of her own.
Nicole Yakushenok recorded 21 assists to go along with six digs and four kills in the contest.
Else Kalar (.500) and
Malia Coyle (.250) both collected six kills against the Cougars.
Humboldt (2-18, 1-16 CCAA) will finish their 2022 campaign on Saturday, November 5 at Cal State East Bay (19-6, 12-5 CCAA) in Hayward, Calif. First serve is set for 5 P.M. from Pionner Gymnasium.
