Strong First Half Carries Pioneers Past ‘Jacks

ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal State East Bay outscored the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 38-22 in the first half to key the Pioneers' 64-49 win over the 'Jacks. Jadence Clifton led the way for Humboldt with 14 points and eight rebounds.  Madison Parry chipped in 12 points and three steals while Kaz Parks added 10 points for the hosts. 
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Cal State East Bay (18-2, 13-1 CCAA) took an 11-4 lead with five minutes to go in the first quarter. A Citlaly Davalos three off a Madison Parry capped a 10-0 run by the 'Jacks to cut the deficit to 14-11 late in the quarter.  A Grace Campbell three capped a 5-1 run by the visitors as they took a 19-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER: The Pioneers increased their lead to 33-16 in the first seven minutes of the next quarter.  A Kaz Parks three off a pass from Jadence Clifton cut the deficit to 36-22.  Cal State East Bay took a 38-22 lead into the locker room on a Zhane Duckett lay-up as the buzzer sounded.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  A Grace Campbell jumper increased the Pioneers' lead to 43-22 three minutes into the new stanza.  The visitors increased their lead to 55-33 on a lay-up by Madison Schiller with just 46 seconds left in the quarter. That is the lead that Cal State East Bay took into the final quarter. 
 
FOURTH QUARTER: Madison Schiller's jumper early in the fourth quarter gave East Bay a 60-37 lead.  Cal Poly Humboldt (7-12, 6-9 CCAA) went on a 12-2 run capped by a Sharon Roldan three, but it was a little too late as the Pioneers took the 64-49 victory.
 
THINK PINK NIGHT: The Lumberjacks held their annual Think Pink Night this evening.  Their honorary coach was former Humboldt Athletic Administrative Assistant Sue Simon who is a breast cancer survivor.  Prior to the game, the 'Jacks played a video which some of the players and coaches said who they were playing for this evening.  At half-time, Humboldt's Senior Women Administrator/Associate Athletic Director Kelly Kime presented Simon with pink flowers. 
 
TRIO IN DOUBLE DIGITS:  Three 'Jacks scored in double digits led by Jadence Clifton's 14 points.  Madison Parry added 13 points while Kaz Parks chipped in 10 points for Humboldt.
 
15 TURNOVERS:  Cal Poly Humboldt forced 15 turnovers by the Pioneers including seven by steals.  Three of the steals came from Madison Parry while Sharon Roldan and Jadence Clifton each had two steals.
 
FINAL ROAD TRIP:  The Lumberjacks will have their final road trip this coming week. Humboldt will be at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, February 17 and at Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday, February 19. Both tip-offs are scheduled for 5:30pm.
