Humboldt’s Late Second Half Rally Falls Short in 68-57 Loss at CPP

POMONA, Calif.--- The visiting Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks saw their late second half rally fall short in their 68-57 loss to the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos this evening in Pomona, Calif.  The 'Jacks lost despite Madison Parry's eighth double-double (23 points, 13 rebounds) and Citlaly Davalos' 15 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER:  Cal Poly Pomona (7-14, 6-11 CCAA) scored the first eight points of the game capped by an Ally Bates' three in the first here minutes of the game.  The 'Jacks went on an 8-0 of their own capped by a Madison Parry lay-up off a pass from Sharon Roldan to tie the game at 8-8.  The Broncos finished the quarter outscoring their guests 10-0 to take a 18-8 lead into the second quarter.
 
SECOND QUARTER:  A Monica Todd lay-up increased the Broncos' lead to 22-10 two minutes into the second quarter.  Ashley Peralta's three off a pass from Sharon Roldan cut the deficit to 22-13, but the Broncos outscored the 'Jacks 10-4 to take a 32-17 lead into the locker room.
 
THIRD QUARTER:  The hosts took a 42-22 lead four minutes into the third quarter on an Ally Bates' lay-up.  A three by Sharon Roldan off an assist from Kaz Parks cut the Bronco lead to 47-31.  The Broncos took a 49-31 lead into the final quarter on a Monica Todd lay-up.
 
FOURTH QUARTER:  A Rebecca Islas' layup increased CPP"s lead to 55-33 just three minutes into the final quarter.  Cal Poly Humboldt (7-13, 6-10 CCAA) didn't go away as the 'Jacks cut the deficit to 59-48 on two free throws by Citlaly Davalos with just 2:45 on the clock.  The Broncos increased their lead to 14 (66-52) with just 37 seconds left in the game.  A Citlaly Davalos' three off a pass from Ashley Peralta made the final 68-57 Broncos.
 
NUMBER EIGHT:  With her 21-points, 13-rebound performance, Madison Parry recorded her eighth double-double of the season.  Parry went nine-for-15 from the field and five-for-seven from the line while blocking a shot and recording a steal in 40 minutes.
 
MORE A'S THAN T'S:  As a team, the Lumberjacks had 18 assists with 16 turnovers.  Ashley Peralta had eight assists and three turnovers while Jadence Clifton had five assists and two turnovers.  Sharon Roldan had two assists and two turnovers. 
 
UP NEXT:  Cal Poly Humboldt will have its final road game of the 2021-22 campaign on Saturday, February 19 when the 'Jacks face Cal State San Bernardino in San Bernardino.  The Yotes lost 70-62 to Sonoma State this evening in San Bernardino.  Last month in Arcata, the 'Jacks lost 63-51 to Cal State San Bernardino.
