ARCATA, Calif--- Cal Poly Humboldt women's basketball team will travel to the Los Angeles metropolitan area for their final road trip of the 2021-22 regular season this weekend. The 'Jacks will be in Pomona this Thursday, February 17 for a game with Cal Poly Pomona. They will finish off the week with a game at Cal State San Bernardino this Saturday, February 19. Tip-off for both evenings is scheduled for 5:30pm.
COACHING STAFF: The 'Jacks are coached by sixth-year head coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. Coach Bento-Jackson is 223-179 in her sixteen years as a head coach. During those 16 years, she also has had four losing seasons including just one at Humboldt State. Prior to being the head coach at HSU, Bento-Jackson was the head coach at Santa Clara and Texas A&M-International. She is assisted by Humboldt State Alum and former Lumberjack men's basketball player Guillermo Blas.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: Humboldt lost both its games this weekend at Lumberjack Arena. Thursday night, the 'Jacks lost 60-53 to Cal State Dominguez Hills despite
Madison Parry's seventh double-double of the season. Parry scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Kaz Parks chipped in 11 points for the 'Jacks. On Saturday, Humboldt lost 64-49 to Cal State East Bay despite outscoring the Pioneers 15-9 in the final quarter. Jaden Clifton paced the 'Jacks with 14 points and eight rebounds. Parry added 13 points while Parks chipped in 10 points for the 'Jacks.
UPDATE ON THE 'JACKS: Cal Poly Humboldt enters this weekend's two-game road trip with a 7-12 overall record and an 6-9 CCAA record. The 'Jacks are scoring 61.5 points per game while giving up 63.0 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 38.1 to 36.4. Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in
Madison Parry (15.5 ppg),
Julia Iman (14.9 ppg) and
Kaz Parks (10.6 ppg). Iman leads the team with her 9.4 rebounding average and 45.3% shooting from the field. Parry has blocked a team leading 18 shots while recording a team high 24 steals. She also leads the team with her 78.3 shooting from the charity stripe.
Ashley Peralta has dished out a team high 52 assists with Parks connecting on a team leading 45 three-point field goals. She leads Humboldt with her 35.4% shooting from three-point land.
DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Five Lumberjacks have recorded double-doubles this season in
Julia Iman,
Madison Parry,
Sharon Roldan,
Jadence Clifton and
Citlaly Davalos. Parry has seven double-doubles while Iman has five double-doubles while Roldan, Clifton and Davalos each have one.
OVERTIME GAMES: Cal Poly Humboldt is 1-1 in overtime games this year. The 'Jacks defeated Chico State 105-96 in Chico on Dec. 18, 2021 in triple overtime. They then lost 89-80 in double overtime on Jan. 15, 2022.
JUST ONE GAMEOUT: The 'Jacks are in eighth place, two games out of the sixth and final spot for the six-team CCAA Championship Tournament, March 3-5, at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. The top six spots are 1.) Cal State San Marcos (15-1), 2.) Cal State East Bay (13-1), 3.) Chico State (9-5), 4.) Cal State Los Angeles (9-6), 5.) Stanislaus State (7-6) and 6.) Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-7). Sonoma State is in seventh at 7-8 followed by the 'Jacks at 6-9.
CCAA RANKINGS: In the recent CCAA statistics report, Cal Poly Humboldt is in the top six in six team statistical categories. The 'Jacks are fourth in three-point field goals made and free throw percentage, fifth in assist/turnover ratio and sixth in assists, scoring defense and three-point field goal percentage defense.
Madison Parry and
Kaz Parks are in the top five in seven individual categories. Parry is second in rebounding, tied for third in blocked shots, fourth in scoring and fifth in field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Parks is third in three-point field goal percentage and fourth in three-point field goals made.
REGION MATCH-UP: All four non-conference games for the 'Jacks were against NCAA Division II West Region opponents which are very important for rankings. HSU lost its first two games of the season against two Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (68-56) and Seattle Pacific (54-52) in Seattle, Wash. The 'Jacks went 1-1 against Dominican, who is a member of the PacWest Conference. They lost 72-70 in San Rafael to the Penguins and defeated them 66-49 in Arcata. The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA: Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena. The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships. March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5. The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
CAL POLY POMONA: The Broncos are 8-14 overall and 5-11 in the CCAA after going 0-2 last week falling 69-60 at Cal State Los Angeles and 51-42 at Cal State San Marcos. They are averaging 65.6 points per game while giving up 70.1 points per game. Cal Poly Pomona is being out-rebounded 42.0 to 40.8. Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in Ally Bates (12.5 ppg) and Monica Todd (11.1 ppg). Bates leads the team with her 57 assists, 42.3% shooting from the field, 38 three-point field goals made, 40.4% shooting from three-point range and 77.6% shooting from the line. Tood leads the team with her 51 steals while Ciara James is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game and has a team high 39 blocked shots.
ALL-TIME SERIES (HUMBOLDT vs. POMONA): The all-time series is tied at 14-14 between the two teams. The Broncos won 89-80 in double overtime in the last meeting on January 15 in Arcata. The 'Jacks have won four of the last six meetings including 73-70 in Pomona on December 5, 2019.

They have lost their last three in a row including both games this past weekend at Cal State San Marcos (74-49) and Cal State Los Angeles (73-58). Cal State San Bernardino is averaging 58.5 points per game while giving up 65.9 points per game. CSUSB is being out-rebounded 42.3 to 37.4. Destiny Jackson leads the way for the 'Yotes with her 12.4 scoring average. Mia Dufresne is averaging a team leading 7.0 rebounds per game average, 43.1% shooting from the field and 27 blocked shots. Jaida Jackson has dished out a team high 64 assists and recorded a team leading 37 steals. Samantha Henley has made a team leading 25 three-point field goals while shooting a team high 33% from three-point range.
