Humboldt To Finish Off 2021-22 Season Hosting Golden Eagles and Cougars

Amari Green will be recognized for his four-year career on Senior Night this Saturday
ARCATA, Calif--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks men's basketball team will finish off their 2021-22 season this weekend hosting Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles and the No. 14 Cal State San Marcos Cougars.  Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30pm, immediately following the women's basketball games which will start at 5:30pm. 
 
COACHING STAFF:  The 'Jacks are coached by second-year head coach Tae Norwood.  Coach Norwood has a .571 winning percentage during his three years as a head coach. Norwood led the 'Jacks to a 4-5 record during the pandemic season.  He came to Humboldt State from Florida, where he guided Keiser University to a 23-7 record during the 2019-20 season including a share of the conference regular season title.  Keiser also appeared in the NAIA Tournament. 
 
On his staff are Andy Harre (first year), HSU Alum and former men's basketball player Colin Caslick (third season) along with volunteers Jason Hodges and Baron Parks. 

RECAP OF THE LUMBERJACKS' LAST GAMES:  Humboldt went 0-2 last weekend in its in its final two road games of the regular season.  The 'Jacks lost 87-49 at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday with Jaden Edwards leading the way with 17 points.  AJ Sims scored 11 points off the bench while Bryce Mitchell chipped in 10 points for Humboldt. On Saturday, the 'Jacks lost 81-71 at No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino despite four players scoring in double figures.  Sims paced the 'Jacks with a season high 19 points while Edwards chipped in 14 points. Cam Timmons recorded his second double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Amari Green added 12 points. 
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS: Cal Poly Humboldt is 10-14 overall and 4-14 in the CCAA. The 'Jacks are averaging 67.7 points per game while giving up 72.0 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 37.5 to 36.1.  Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in Jaden Edwards (16.3 ppg) and Will Johnson (13.3 ppg).  Edwards leads the 'Jacks with his 9.4 rebounding average and 26 steals.  Cam Timmons is shooting a team high 52.2% from the field and has blocked a team high 18 shots.  Amari Green leads the team with his 62 assists and 77.3% shooting from the line.  AJ Sims has made a team high 36 three-point field goals while he is tied with Edwards each with a 31.3% shooting from three-point range. 
 
BLACK OUT NIGHT THIS THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 24 IN LUMBERJACK ARENA:  This Thursday, February 24 when the Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's basketball teams host Cal State Los Angeles in conference doubleheader will be Black Out Night in recognition of Black History Month.  Come and get pumped up with members of the UMQUA Center for Pan-African Excellence in the Redwood Bowl prior to the games.  The pre-game rally will start at 4pm.  Create a sign take into the game, listen to some music and create a lasting memory at the photo booth and enjoy a Down South style dinner. Everyone will receive a FREE special edition Black Out Game t-shirt to wear at the game.
 
SENIOR NIGHT:  Prior to the game on Saturday, Humboldt will recognize its lone senior in Amari Green. During his four-year career at Humboldt, Green has scored 571 points, grabbed 246 rebounds, dished out 198 assists and recorded 80 steals in 90 games.  He also has connected on 75.6% of his attempts from the line. 
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE: In his first season as a 'Jack, Jaden Edwards has recorded 11 double-doubles while Cam Timmons and Bryce Mitchell each have two. 
 
CCAA RANKINGS: In the latest CCAA team statistical rankings, the 'Jacks are fifth in rebounding margin and blocked shots while they are sixth in total rebounds.  Jaden Edwards and Cam Timmons are in the top ten in five statistical categories.  Edwards is second in rebounding, third in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage and ninth in free throw percentage.  Timmons is fourth in blocked shots.
 
6-0 NON-CONFERENCE (4-0 AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE NCAA DII WEST REGION FOES):
  Four of HSU's six non-conference games were all NCAA Division II West Region games.  HSU started the season with two important wins over Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents in Western Washington (70-69) and Simon Fraser (63-59) in Carson, California.  The 'Jacks also defeated Western Oregon, 75-67, from the GNAC and Dominican, 74-68, from the PacWest Conference.  HSU's other non-conference victories were an 81-78 over Lincoln and an 85-68 win over Simpson.  The CCAA, GNAC and PacWest Conferences are all members of the NCAA Division II West Region.
 
CAL STATE LOS ANGELES: The Golden Eagles are 6-13 overall and 3-10 in the CCAA after going 0-2 this past weekend at home.  They lost 82-65 to Chico State and 62-60 to Stanislaus State.  Cal State Los Angeles is averaging 75.5 points per game while giving up 80.3 points per game. CSULA is being out-rebounded 36.1 to 34.9.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Elisha Duplechan (15.9 ppg), Alexander Sokol (14.8 ppg) and Adresase Jackson (12.6 ppg).  Duplechan leads the team with his 57 assists, 47.7% shooting from the field and 17 steals.  Jackson is averaging a team high 7.6 rebounds per game while blocking a team high 19 shots.  Sokol has made a team high 58 three-point field goals while connecting on 86.8% of his shots from the line and 41.4% of his attempts from three-point land. 
 
ALL-TIME SERIES (Humboldt vs. CSULA):  Humboldt leads the all-time series 18-12 with the series going 5-5 in the last ten meetings.  Humboldt won 93-81 on November 23, 2019 in Arcata and Cal State Los Angeles won 81-74 in Los Angeles on January 18, 2020.  This is the first meeting between the two teams this season. 

CAL STATE SAN MARCOS:  Entering their game on Thursday night at Sonoma State, the No. 14 Cal State San Marcos Cougars are 15-4 overall and 11-4 in the CCAA after going 1-1 last weekend at home.  The Cougars defeated Stanislaus State 66-52 and lost to nationally ranked Chico State 63-57.  The Cougars are averaging 75.5 points per game while giving up 63.7 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 36.7 to 34.1.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Blake Seits (15.6 ppg), Greg Milton III (13.2 ppg) and Jayce McCain (12.7 ppg).  Seits has made a team high 45 three-point field goals while connecting on a team best 39.1% of his attempts from beyond the arc.  He is tied with McCain for the team lead each with a 5.1 rebounding average.  Milton has made a team high 86.3% of his attempts from the charity stripe.  McCain leads the team with his 32 steals and 65 assists while Joel Mensah has connected on a team high 60.5% of his attempts from the field.

ALL-TIME SERIES (Humboldt vs. CSUSM):  The all-time series between the two teams is tied at 5-5.  They split the season series in 2019-20.  The Cougars won 76-74 in Arcata on January 9, 2020.  Humboldt won 91-85 in overtime in San Marcos on February 1, 2020 behind Jackson Strong's 34 points while Amari Green added 10 points.  This the first meeting between the two teams this season.

CCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LUMBERJACK ARENA:  Humboldt State will host the 2021-22 CCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, March 3-5 at Lumberjack Arena.  The top six teams will receive a berth to the CCAA Championships.  March 3 will be the quarterfinal round with the top two seeds receiving a bye. The semi-final round games are set for March 4 with the championship game set for March 5.  The winner of the CCAA Championships will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Championships.
