Humboldt to Host Chico State in Home Opener this Weekend

Katelyn Dendas and her teammates will host Chico State this weekend in a four-game series
ARCATA, Calif.--- After not having a home game in almost two years, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks will host the No. 19 Chico State Wildcats in a four-game conference series at the Humboldt Softball Field.  The four-game series will begin this Friday, March 4 with a noon starting doubleheader.  The series will conclude with an 11am starting doubleheader. 
 
RECAP OF LAST TRIP:  Humboldt (7-9, 3-5 CCAA) were swept by the Cal State East Bay Pioneers this weekend in Hayward.  The Jacks lost the opener 11-2 (5) on Friday. Izzy Starr went two-for-three while she drove in two runs.  Ava Hand pitched 3.1 innings of relief while she struck out six. In the night cap on Friday, Humboldt lost 5-1 with JoAna Mullins driving in the Jacks' run. Emily McAdams pitched 1.1 scoreless innings of relief while striking out one and walking one.  The Jacks lost the third game of the season Saturday 10-2 (5) despite Mullins going two-for-three with a run batted in and a run scored.  Cal State East Bay took the series finale 8-0.
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS' OFFENSE:  Cal Poly Humboldt has a team batting average of .301 with four players hitting over .300 in JoAna Mullins (.417), Micaela Harris (.396), Izzy Starr (.358) and Katelyn Dendas (.300). Starr leads the team with her 20 runs batted in, three home runs and is tied with Dendas each with five doubles.  Harris leads Humboldt with her five triples, 21 hits, 21 runs scored, .755 slugging percentage and 11 stolen bases.  Mullins leads the Jacks with her .472 on-base percentage. 
 
LUMBERJACKS PITCHING STAFF IN REVIEW:  Humboldt's team earned run average (ERA) is 6.95 with Karen Di Dio leading the way with her 4.20 ERA, four wins, 23 strikeouts and 36.2 innings pitched Gaige Garcia has three wins in 26.2 innings pitched.
 
CHIO STATE IN REVIEW:  The 19th ranked Wildcats are 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA after sweeping Cal State San Bernardino this weekend in Chico.  The Wildcats are hitting .293 as a team with seven players hitting over .300 in Taylor Berens (.500), Nina Revoir (.385), Reilani Peleti (.364), Grace Stover (.349), Brooke Larsen (.333), Rachel Bles (.308) and Hailey Seva (.300).  Revoir leads the way with her 12 runs batted in, and is tied with Peleti each with 20 hits.  They both lead Chico State with four doubles. Seva and Revoir along with Amanda Metzger each have two home runs and Stover has a team high two triples.  The pitching staff has a team 2.31 earned run average with Brooke Larsen leading the way with a 9-1 record and a 1.13 ERA. She also has struck out 102 batters with just 15 walks in 68 innings pitched. 
 
AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS:  The Jacks are first in the CCAA in home runs, doubles and slugging percentage. They are second in triples, fourth in runs batted in, fifth in stolen bases and sixth in batting average and runs scored.  Micaela Harris is second in runs scored, third in stolen bases, tied for fourth in hits, fourth in slugging percentage, fifth in triples, tied for seventh in home runs and tenth in batting average.  Izzy Starr is first in runs batted in, tied for fourth in home runs, tied for seventh in doubles and eighth in slugging percentage.  Katelyn Dendas is tied for sixth in triples, tied for seventh in doubles and home runs and tenth in slugging percentage.  JoAna Mullins is sixth in average and seventh in hits while Vanessa Saltos is tied for first in home runs and fifth in runs batted in.
 
40 FOR 41:   Micaela Harris is now 40-for-41 in stolen base attempts since 2020.  She went 18 for 18 in 2020, 11 for 11 in 2021 and is ten for 11 this season.  For her career, Harris is 76 for 80 in stolen base attempts. The senior outfielder/catcher is fifth on the Lumberjacks' all-time list.  Andrea Williams (2001-04) is tied for fourth with Andrea Williams (2001-04) with her 87 stolen bases,
 
HARRIS ALSO MOVIN' ON UP IN:  Micaela Harris is fourth in triples (13) and ninth in runs scored (166).  She is four triples from moving past April Tursky (1998-2001) into fourth place.  Jamie Peterson (1996-99) holds the all-time record with 28.  Harris is one from moving past Tiffany Hollingsworth (2014-17) into eighth place on the runs list.  Jennifer Fritz (1993-96) holds the Humboldt career record with 195. 
 
31-29:  Cal Poly Humboldt leads the all-time series with Chico State 31-29. The Wildcats took three out of the last four games with the Jacks in 2020.  Humboldt won the first game of the series 4-3, but lost the final three 10-5, 17-1 (5) and 15-2 (5).

BACK ON THE ROAD:  Humboldt will return to the road next weekend for a four-game series with Stanislaus State, March 11-12.  The series will begin with a 1pm starting doubleheader on Friday the 11 and conclude with an 11am starting doubleheader on Saturday the 12.
