The CCAA Men's & Women's Basketball Tournament makes its return to the court with a new format for 2021-22. The event returns after a one-year hiatus in 2020-21 and it also returns to Lumberjack Arena, on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt, for the first time since 2010.  The tournament starts this Thursday, March 3 with quarterfinal round games (12pm, 2:30pm, 5:30pm, 8pm).  It continues this Friday, March 4 with the semi-final round games (12pmm, 2:30pm, 5:30pm, 8pm).  The two tournament championships are set for this Saturday, March 5 at 5pm with the women's game followed by the men's game at 8pm. 
 
The men's basketball tournament consists of three of the top 20 teams in the nation  according to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino, No. 11 Chico State and No. 14 Cal State San Marcos.  Those three teams along with Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona are ranked in the top ten in the recent NCAA Division II West Region Poll.  Chico State is first, Cal State San Bernardino is second, Cal State San Marcos is third, Cal Poly Pomona is seventh and Cal State Monterey Bay is tenth..
 
The women's basketball tournament consists of two of the ten teams in the recent NCAA Division Ii West Region Poll in Cal State East Bay who is first and Cal State San Marcos who is third.  Cal State San Marcos is 19^th in the recent Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) poll while Cal State East Bay is 24^th. 
 
The top eight teams in each of the nation's eight regions will receive berths to the 2021-22 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Basketball Championship.  The tournament field will be announced this Sunday, March 6.

Now a six-team tournament, for both the men's and women's tournament at one site, the top two seeds will get a bye in the quarterfinal round and automatically advance to the semifinals. The tournament champion will receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. 

Humboldt's Lumberjack Arena, which opened in 2008, features chair-back, theater-style seating and molded bleacher seating. It is brightly lit with state-of-the-art scoreboards. The Arena was designed and constructed to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver standards, using sustainable materials and incorporating green elements.
