Cal Poly Humboldt’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Donates 611 Canned Goods to Campus’ Oh-SNAP

Humboldt SAAC President Macy Thomas with members of OhSNAP
ARCATA, Calif---  Cal Poly Humboldt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its Annual Canned Food Good Drive during the week of February 21-27.  This year's drive was held in conjunction with a Dodge Ball Tournament that involved the athletic and campus recreation departments.  The Lumberjack SAAC raised 611 cans that were donated to the campus' OhSNAP program.

"Cal Poly Humboldt's SAAC organized an incredible dodgeball tournament for our department to come together and raise canned food goods to donate to OhSNAP," said Humboldt SAAC's President Macy Thomas.  "The CCAA holds an annual canned food drive every year during the month of February, where we get to compete with each other to see which athletic department can raise the most cans."

The Dodge Ball Tournament was held on February 27 in Lumberjack Arena and was won by members of the Humboldt men's soccer team which defeated members of the Jack men's basketball team.  There were several teams that competed in the tournament including members of the club teams and coaches and administrative staff.

"We decided to make it fun this year and hold a dodgeball tournament where you had to bring at least two canned goods to play, needless to say, people brought a lot more than two," noted Thomas. ."The result was 611 cans and a massive amount of fun! We had all of our sports, club sports, staff members, and coaches come together to have an awesome night and raise a lot of canned goods! I was so happy with how the night went and I thank everyone who came out to support!"

The 611 cans were donated to the Cal Poly Humboldt's OhSNAP program.  OhSNAP! Student Food Programs is a student-driven initiative. Our mission is to increase access to nutritious and culturally appropriate food for all Cal Poly Humboldt's students by engaging in campus and community partnerships and by raising awareness of food insecurity among our peers.

OhSNAP aims to provide our fellow students with basic necessities and connections to community resources. There services currently include a campus food pantry, a weekly stand with free fresh fruits and vegetables (during the growing season), CalFresh application assistance, connections to other local food resources, and outreach events.

They provide CalFresh assistance to anyone who needs it, however our pantry and food redistribution services are for matriculated Cal Poly Humboldt students only. If you have questions about this please contact ohsnap@humboldt.edu.
