ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks return home this Sunday-Monday, March 20-21 for a four-game conference series with Sonoma State. The Jacks are coming off a 4-2 weekend road trip including a 3-1 series win at Stanislaus State. The series between the two teams will begin this Sunday, March 20 with a 1pm starting doubleheader. The two teams will conclude the series with an 11am starting doubleheader on March 21.
RECAP OF LAST WEEK: Humboldt started the weekend with a four-game series at Stanislaus State. The Jacks took three out of the four games from the Warriors . They won the last three games of the series by scoreless of 5-4, 10-2 (6) and 10-9.
Karen Di Dio went 2-0 during the weekend while
Vanessa Richie picked up her first win of the season. The Jacks finished the weekend splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Academy of Art on Sunday. Humboldt lost the opener 11-5 but came back to win the night cap 12-1 (5).
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS' OFFENSE: Cal Poly Humboldt has a team batting average of .300 with four players hitting over .300 in
JoAna Mullins (.420),
Micaela Harris (.407),
Izzy Starr (.364) and
Vanessa Saltos (.319). Humboldt has hit a conference leading 22 home runs this season with
Vanessa Saltos leading the way with nine home runs followed by
Izzy Starr with four and
Micaela Harris and
Katelyn Dendas each with three. The Jacks also have 47 doubles and 11 triples. Starr and
Alyssa Ramirez are tied for the team lead in doubles each with seven with Harris leading the Jacks with six triples. Starr leads the team with her 27 runs batted in while Saltos has a team high .764 slugging percentage. Harris leads Humboldt with her .480 on-base percentage and 21 stolen bases along with her 35 hits.
LUMBERJACKS PITCHING STAFF IN REVIEW: The Jacks have a team earned run average of 6.65 with
Karen Di Dio leading the way with a team low 4.57 earned run average. She also has six of the Lumberjacks' 11 wins. Di Dio leads the team with her 37 strikeouts, 56.2 innings pitched, three complete games and 14 appearances. Recording the five other wins for Humboldt are
Gaige Garcia with three and
Vanessa Richie with two.
SONOMA IN REVIEW: Sonoma State is 14-13 overall and 6-10 in the CCAA enter this weekend's series with the Jacks. The Seawolves are batting .287 as a team with Giana Hays leading the way with her .350 batting average. Hays also leads Sonoma with her 19 runs scored, 28 hits, eight doubles and .613 slugging percentage. Skylar Linnane has hit a team leading five home runs and Jordyn Martinez has driven in a team leading 21 runs. She also has a team high .457 on-base percentage and Cassidy Romano has stolen a team leading nine bases. Camille Rodriguez leads SSU with her seven victories in the circle with her team low 2.05 earned run average and 37 strikeouts.
HUMBOLDT ADVANTAGE: Humboldt leads the all-time series with the Seawolves 43-27. Sonoma has won the last seven straight games between the two teams. Humboldt's last win was 8-6 in Rohnert Park on March 18, 2019.
CCAA STANDINGS: Heading into this week, Humboldt is tied for seventh place with Sonoma State in the CCAA standings each with a 6-10 conference record. The Jacks are one game out of fifth place which Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State each have a 7-9 record. Sitting in fourth place at 8-8 is Cal State East Bay. The top three teams are Cal State San Marcos and Chico State each at 14-2 followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills at 10-6.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season will receive a bid to the CCAA Softball Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif., and run from May 5 to May 7. The tournament champion will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.
AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS: As a team, Cal Poly Humboldt is in the top five in the CCAA in nine statistical categories. The Jacks are first in hits, home runs and slugging percentage. They are second in triples and fourth in hits, runs batted in and stolen bases while they are fifth in batting average and on-base percentage.
Humboldt has six players that are in the top ten in several individual categories.
Micaela Harris is first in triples, tied for first in runs scored, tied for second in stolen bases, third in slugging percentage, tied for third in hits, eighth in on-base percentage and ninth in batting average.
JoAna Mullins is tied for third in hits, fourth in runs batted in, fifth in batting average and seventh in triples.
Izzy Starr is second in runs batted in, fourth in home runs, sixth in hits and tied for seventh in doubles.
Vanessa Saltos is first in home runs, second in slugging percentage and third in runs batted in while
Alyssa Ramirez is tied for eighth in doubles and
Karen Di Dio is ninth in wins.

50 FOR 51: Micaela Harris is now 50-for-51 in stolen base attempts since 2020. She went 18 for 18 in 2020, 11 for 11 in 2021 and is 15 for 16 this season. For her career, Harris is 86 for 92 in stolen base attempts. The senior outfielder/catcher is fifth on the Lumberjacks' all-time list. BACK ON THE ROAD: Humboldt will be back on the road on March 25-26 for a four-game series in Seaside, Calif., against Cal State Monterey Bay. After that series, Humboldt will be in Turlock, Calif., the weekend of April 1-3 for the Tournament of Champions, presented by the City of Turlock at the Pedretti Sports Complex. The Jacks will face Western Washington, Hawai'i Pacific, Hawai'i Hilo, Azusa Pacific and No. 2 Concordia Irvine in the three-day tournament. All five of Humboldt's games will be at the Pedretti Sports Complex. After the Tournament of Champions, Humboldt will be at Dominican for a non-conference doubleheader on April 5. They will return home April 15-16 for a four-game series with Cal State San Bernardino.
