Box Score 2 SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks finished their 11-game road trip with a doubleheader split with the Dominican (Calif.) Penguins this afternoon in San Rafael, Calif. The Jacks won the opener 3-1 in extra innings, but lost the night cap 5-3.
Karen Di Dio pitched the complete game victory for Humboldt in the opener while
Micaela Harris went six-for-eight with two home runs and two stolen bases.
GAME ONE: Dominican took a 1-0 lead in its half of the second inning. With one out, Peyton Mott singled to center field. She stole second and advanced to third on the throwing error. With two outs, Mott scored on a run scoring single by Faith Erb.
The score remained 1-0 Penguins until the Jack half of the sixth inning.
Micaela Harris' solo home run to right field tied the game at 1-1. Dominican had a chance to win the game in its half of the seventh. Melissa Garcia was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh. She went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Lapinid. Lumberjack starter,
Karen Di Dio (7-13), retired the next two batters to send the game into extra innings.
Playing international rules,
Ciera Pyle was placed on second for the Jacks to begin the eighth. She stole second and scored on a double by
Kristin Ingram to give Humboldt a 2-1 lead.
Hollee Travao pinch ran for Ingram and went to second on
Anna Brondos' sacrifice bunt. She scored on a ground out by Harris to double the Jack lead to 3-1.
After the Penguins placed their runner to begin the bottom of the eighth. Di Dio retired the hosts in order all on ground outs to
Vanessa Saltos at second to preserve the 3-1 Jack victory.
JACK STARS: Cal Poly Humboldt (13-28) was paced by
Micaela Harris who went two-for-four with two runs batted in, a run scored, a stolen base and a home run.
Kristin Ingram was one-for-three with a run scoring double.
GAME TWO: Game two was scoreless until the Jack half of the third inning.
Micaela Harris had a one-out single and then stole second base. Harris scored on a bunt single by
JoAna Mullins to give Humboldt the 1-0 lead. Mullins stole second and scored on an
Izzy Starr single as the Jacks doubled their lead to 2-0.
Humboldt took a 3-0 lead in its half of the fifth on a lead-off home run by Harris.
Dominican (14-28) had a five-run fifth to take a 5-3 lead. Lauren Lapinid and Peyton Mott each had two-run singles to key the Penguin fifth as the hosts took a 5-3 lead.
The Jacks had a chance to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Ava hand was hit by a pitch with one out. She went to third on a two-out single by Harris, but Kathrynn Caravalho (6-8) induced the final Jack batter to pop out to shortstop to end the scoring threat.
The guests had another chance to tie the game in their last at bat.
Katelyn Dendas had a one-out double. She went to third on a ground out by
Vanessa Saltos. Dendas was stranded at third as Carvalho induce the final Jack batter of the game to ground out to shortstop as the Penguins took the night cap 5-3.
JACK STARS: Micaela Harris went four-for-four with a run batted in, two runs scored, a stolen base, a double and a home run.
Izzy Starr was two-for-three with a run batted in and a double.
Katelyn Dendas finished the night cap two-for-four with a double.
Ava Hand pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit, striking out two and walking one.
UP NEXT: Cal Poly Humboldt will return home for a four-game CCAA series, April 15-16. The series will begin with a 1pm starting doubleheader on Friday, April 15 on Dam Worth It Day. The Jacks will be recognizing Mental Health Awareness in a pre-game ceremony. The two teams will conclude the series with a noon starting doubleheader on
Evelyn Andrews Day.
