SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt failed to capture any meaningful momentum, as the Gators of San Francisco State dispatched the Jacks in three straight sets on Friday afternoon. The loss drops the Lumberjacks to 1-8 overall and 0-6 in CCAA play. Macy Thomas had seven digs while Avery McIntyre had two blocks in the loss.
FIRST SET: San Francisco would jump to an early 5-2 lead behind a kill by Rebecca Rendahl and attack errors by McIntyre. The Gators would expand their lead going on a 5-1 run to take a 10-3 advantage. The Jacks would fail to score more than one point in a row as the Gators cruised to a 25-8 set one victory.
SECOND SET: Humboldt would start set number two by jumping out to an early 5-3 lead behind a kill by Mina Barajas. It would be the Jacks' only lead of the set, as the Gators would go on a 6-0 run to retake control of the set, 9-5. A kill by Lindsey McLaughlin would keep the deficit at four, 14-10, but things wouldn't get closer than that. The Gators would stymy any momentum swings to take the second set 25-15
THIRD SET: San Francisco State jumped out to an early 8-2 lead to start the match. The Jacks would cut the lead down to 8-6 behind a kill by Cecilia Costa, and an ace by Riley White. The Gators would respond by scoring six of the next seven points to increase their lead to seven. The Gators would expand their lead to as much as 11, taking the match and the game with a final set of 14-25.
UP NEXT: The Jacks will look to rebound next week when they return to Lumberjack Arena for a Thursday matchup on Sept. 29 against the Warriors of Stanislaus State at 7pm.
