ARCATA, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball team will return home this weekend to Tom Wood Court inside of Lumberjack Arena and kickoff the second half of the CCAA season. The 'Jacks (9-9, 7-5 CCAA) currently sit in third place after two tough losses this past weekend in Southern California against Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino. Thursday's game will see Humboldt face-off against San Francisco State and Saturday's matchup will be against Cal Sate Monterey Bay in the "Dam Worth It" promotional game. Both tip-offs are set for 7:30 p.m.
Marlon Ruffin will look to stay hot, as he averaged 16 points per game this past weekend.
Cam Timmons posted consistent performances, averaging 13.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Timmons was named "Lumberjack of the Week" for recording his second double-double this season and recording a season-high 14 rebounds in the game against first place Cal State San Bernardino.
San Francisco State (9-9, 5-7 CCAA)
The Gators are on a four-game winning streak heading into Thursday's game at Lumberjack Arena. They currently sit in seventh place, just one game back of the last playoff spot in the CCAA standings. San Francisco State is paced offensively by Jonah Roth, who averages 11.8 points per game on 42.5 percent shooting. As a team, they currently rank second in the CCAA for rebounding. The Gators average 39.2 rebounds per game compared to Humboldt's 37.3 rebounds per game and are one of only two teams in the conference with more than 700 rebounds.
"San Francisco State is a scrappy team," said Norwood. "They play hard and do a really good job of getting on the O-glass and getting out in transition. They have two different guys that can take over the game, so it's going to be an uphill battle for us."
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Lumberjack Arena.
Cal State Monterey Bay (6-10, 4-7 CCAA)
The Otters come off their first weekend sweep of he season and are currently riding a three-game winning streak going into the weekend. Before Cal State Monterey Bay takes on the 'Jacks this Saturday, they will be at Sonoma State on Thursday. The Otters are led offensively by Joe Wall and Levi Frankland who both average just under 15 points per game. Frankland was awarded CCAA Player of the Week honors this past week after he averaged 24.5 points per game and four rebounds against Stanislaus State and Chico State.
"They have some guys that can score the ball at a high level. So that will be a challenge for us. We can't allow them to get hot and put together a string of threes that will keep them in the game or give them the lead."
As a team, Monterey Bay is currently ranked the fourth best offense in the conference, averaging 72.5 points per game in comparison to Humboldt's second ranked 79.8 points per game. The Otters also average nine three-pointers made per game, which is good for first in conference.
Tip-off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Lumberjack Arena.
