POMONA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball opened their Southern California road trip against the No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona Broncos on Friday afternoon from Kellogg Arena. The Lumberjacks took set three from the Broncos but fell with a final score of 1-3. Elyse McKinney led with eight kills, while Slavik posted a 42 assist, 11 dig double-double. 

Back-to-back kills from Avary Spoja put Humboldt out in front early with a 2-0 lead. Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) scored eight straight points and took a commanding 8-2 lead in set one. Two service errors, two attack errors and a kill from Awelina Fakalata brought the 'Jacks back to within one point (9-10), but Pomona collected eight of the next ten points to go up 18-11 on the 'Jacks. The Broncos closed set one out with a final score of 25-15. 

Lindsey McLaughlin and Awelina Fakalata had kills that cut the Bronco lead to two (9-11) in the second set. CPP proceeded to score 11 of the next 13 points to hold a 22-11 lead over Humboldt. A Tatyana Tauese Paulino service ace was the third straight point for Humboldt and made it 24-16, but Pomona closed out the second set with a 25-16 win over the 'Jacks. 

With their backs against the wall, Humboldt scored five of six early points to open set three with a lead. Kills from Fakalata, Ryleeh Tuaolo, and Elyse McKinney led to eight straight points, extendeing the Lumberjack lead to seven (16-9) over the Broncos. With Humboldt up 24-17, the Broncos scored six points in a row to pull to within one point, 24-23, but an Elyse McKinney kill led the 'Jacks to a 25-23 set three victory over No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona. 

With the score even at 21 in set four, the Broncos scored the final four points to win set four 25-21 and finish the match with a 3-1 victory over Humboldt.
