38th Annual Athletics Auction Returns April 6, 2024 Featuring Notable Alumni Eddie Pate as Keynote Speaker

BLUE LAKE, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt proudly announces the highly anticipated 38th Annual Athletics Auction, a premier fundraising event organized by the Cal Poly Athletics department. This year's dinner will take place at the Sapphire Palace in Blue Lake, CA, providing a stunning backdrop for an evening dedicated to supporting Student-Athlete scholarships.

The evening will commence with a delightful dinner, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of philanthropy and celebration. Attendees will have the privilege of hearing from the distinguished Eddie Pate, a notable alumni who has served in executive positions for Amazon, Starbucks, Avanade and Microsoft and is the Founder of Eddie Pate Speaking and Consulting, INC.

A proud graduate of Cal Poly Humboldt, Eddie made history as a Wide Receiver on the Football team from 1981 to 1985. His outstanding contributions to the team earned him a brief stint in the NFL and an induction into the Humboldt Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995, a testament to his exceptional skill, dedication, and leadership on the field.

Beyond the gridiron, Eddie graduated from Humboldt in 1988 with a degree in Wildlife and again in 1993 with an MA in Sociology, before going on to earn a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Washington in 2000 . His academic pursuits complemented his athletic achievements, showcasing a commitment to both intellectual and physical excellence. Eddie's presence as the keynote speaker adds a unique and personal touch to the 38th Annual Athletics Sports Auction, creating a connection between the university's proud athletic history and its future.

The event will also feature both a live and silent auction, showcasing exclusive items, VIP packages, and unique experiences. All proceeds will directly support athletics scholarships, nurturing the development and success of student-athletes at Cal Poly Humboldt.

"We are honored to welcome back Eddie Pate as our keynote speaker for this milestone event," said Dr. Nick Pettit, Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Campus Recreation of the Cal Poly Athletics department. "Eddie's journey, from a celebrated athlete to a global executive, is a source of inspiration and a direct reflection of the impact college athletics has on our students. We look forward to an evening of celebration, camaraderie, and impactful giving."
