ARCATA, Calif. - After a successful home stand that resulted in two crucial conference victories, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks (8-10, 6-8 CCAA) head back on the road for a pair of matchups against Stanislaus State and Chico State this Thursday and Saturday.
"We had two different situations as far as the scenarios that were presented to us from San Francisco State and Monterey," head coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson said. "But I thought the girls kept their energy up. We kept our heads up and really stayed positive and we came out both games and really capitalized on the third quarter."
The Lumberjacks earned two big games last weekend, starting with a six point victory over San Francisco State and a 30+ point win over Cal State Monterey Bay in front of a packed Lumberjack Arena.
"We definitely felt the spirit and energy from our fans," Bento-Jackson said. "There's no doubt that that helps the girls with their energy throughout the game."
Madison Parry, who sits second in scoring in the CCAA with 16.4 points per game, averaged 18 points per contest last weekend while
Jayci Bayne scored a career high 22 points in the win over Monterey Bay.
Jaydon Williams also earned a double-double in Saturday's contest, pulling down 11 rebounds to go along with 10 points. The North Coast squad will look for all-three to contribute this weekend, in what could be the most crucial road trip of the season thus far.
Stanislaus State (6-14, 2-12 CCAA)
The last time these two teams met, Humboldt came away with a 77-52 win at Lumberjack Arena. More recently, the Warriors come off a split weekend where they fell to No. 6 Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, but were able to defeat Cal State East Bay on Saturday to pick up their second conference victory.
"Going into Stanislaus, it's always a tough place to play," Bento-Jackson said. "And I'm sure they would admit that they didn't give their best performance when they came here last time, so we got to really be ready to go."
The Warriors are led by freshman Makayla Rose, who currently leads the conference in scoring with just over 19 points per game and sits second in the conference in steals. Joia Armstrong is fifth in the conference in blocked shots with 1.2 blocks per game.
Tip-off for Thursday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock.
Chico State(14-6, 10-4)
The Wildcats had the Lumberjacks' number last time these two teams met, as Chico defeated Humboldt earlier in the season 75-63 at Lumberjack Arena. The team currently sits fourth in the conference standings and have won five straight, including a narrow victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday.
"Obviously Chico is coming off a huge win against Dominguez Hills," the coach said. "So it's really going to be a tough challenge for us. We haven't been a great road team up to this point of the season and it takes a lot of toughness to win on the road."
Haley Ison is eigth in the conference in rebounds per game (7) while Zhane Duckett is fifth in the conference in assists (3.8 apg) and seventh in steals (1.9 spg).
Saturday's contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Acker Gym in Chico.
