SOFTBALL SET TO HOST DOMINICAN, SAN FRANCISCO STATE THIS WEEKEND
After a successful series victory over non-conference foe Central Washington last weekend, the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks will look to ride that momentum over spring break when the team welcomes Dominican for a Wednesday afternoon double-header at Bear River Sports Complex in Loleta. The team will then return to CCAA play this weekend when they host San Francisco State for double-headers on Friday and Saturday.
The 'Jacks started the season with a 6-12 overall record and a 1-5 start in CCAA play. Micaela Harris leads the CCAA in stolen bases with 25 and ranks fifth in the country. She sits second in the nation in stolen bases per game (1.39) and stolen base percentage (.962). The senior from Rocklin, California sits just eight stolen bases away from being tied for second on the all-time career list at Humboldt.
TRACK & FIELD TRAVELS TO HISTORIC HAYWARD FIELD
The Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Oregon this weekend to participate in the Oregon Preview at historic Hayward Field in Eugene on Saturday, March 18. Hayward Field sits on the campus of the University of Oregon and has been the site of various Olympic Trials and NCAA Championships. Most recently, the facility played host to the 2022 World Athletics Championships last summer.
Though the season is still young, the 'Jacks already have marks among the top of the CCAA. Aris Valerio currently ranks fourth in the 800-meters as well as seventh in the 1500-meters. Carson Smith ranks fourth in the 1500-meters while Ricardo Torres ranks sixth. Terrence Allen currently has the third highest mark this season in the javelin. On the women's side. Joy Hano ranks third in the 100-hurdles while Isabel Perez-Zoghbi ranks second in the 400-hurdles. Perez-Zoghbi's mark also sits second nationally behind Chico State's Chloe Taylor. In the throws, freshman Nizhoni Kears currently ranks sixth in the shot put.Â
WOMEN'S TRACK EARNS CCAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK HONORS IN CONSECUTIVE WEEKS
The Cal Poly Humboldt duo of Grace Kasberger and Isabel Perez-Zoghbi both earned CCAA Athlete of the Week Honors in consecutive weeks.Â

Via the CCAA: "Grace Kasberger of Cal Poly Humboldt was the runner-up in the heptathlon at Chico's Multi-Event Classic, earning her the CCAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 20-26. Kasberger, the reigning CCAA champion in the heptathlon, scored 4,062 points to finish second behind Fresno Pacific's Brianna Green at the Chico Multi-Event classic back in February. Kasberger, a junior from Prineville, Ore., posted a personal best in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 4 ¾ inches to top the field in the field. Kasberger also posted two second place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (16.33 seconds) and the 800-meter run (2:30.21). She was also third in the high jump (4 feet
, 10 ½ inches).
Perez-Zogbhi made a stellar debut to earn the honor as the CCAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week, for the week of Feb. 27-March 5. Perez-Zoghbi returned home to the Central Valley to win the 400-meter hurdles race at the Kim Duyst Invitational at Stanislaus State on Saturday. Her time of 1:01.76 is a NCAA championship provisional qualifier and the fastest time posted in Division II so far this season. The freshman from Merced finished ahead of Chico State's Chloe Taylor, the reigning CCAA champion in the event. Taylor was second in 1:03.10. Perez-Zoghbi now has the third fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles in Lumberjacks' program history."
WOMEN'S ROWING TO OPEN SEASON IN SEATTLE ON MARCH 25
After inclement weather canceled the Green & Gold's season openers in Sacramento this past weekend, women's rowing will officially begin the 2023 campaign at the Husky Open in Seattle, Washington on Saturday, March 25. After that, the team will prepare to host the Humboldt Regatta at Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center on Saturday, April 1 in Eureka.Â
VALERIO AND GARCIA EARN LUMBERJACK OF THE WEEK HONORS
Lumberjack mid-distance runner Aris Valerio and pitcher Gaige Garcia earned Lumberjack of the Week honors for their performances this past weekend.Â
In his season opener, Valerio took the individual win in the men's 800-meter run at the Wildcat Invitational. His time of 1:54.85 currently ranks fourth in the conference.Â

Garcia went 2-0 on the weekend with 13.2 innings pitched and gave up two earned runs. One of her performances included a complete game where the 'Jacks earned a 2-1 victory in extra innings.
