'Jacks Drop Two to Gators on Friday

LOLETA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt welcomed San Francisco State University to Bear River Sports Complex on Friday to kick-off a four game CCAA series. The Gators got the best of the Lumberjacks on Friday, as they took the first two games of the series. Humboldt fell in game one with a final score of 2-1 and dropped game two in extra innings with a final score of 4-3.

GAME 1 - HOW IT HAPPENED
Micaela Harris led off the bottom of the first inning with a single to second base after beating the throw on an infield hit. She proceeded to steal second base. A Katlyn Gifford walk folowed by an Izzy Starr single to right field loaded the bases. Kristin Ingram grounded out to second base, knocking in Harris on the play and gave the 'Jacks an early 1-0 lead. It wasn't until the top of the sixth inning that Gaige Garcia gave up a hit to the Gators, as Mia Misasi doubled down the right field line. Marley Gonzales reached on a fielders choice and a play at the plate that resulted in a Humboldt defensive error allowed Misasi of San Francisco State to tie at one run a piece. Garcia continued to pitch a gem as she only allowed two hits the entire game, with the second Gator hit coming in the top of the seventh that drove in a run to give San Francisco State a 2-1 advantage. Humboldt struggled to brew some last inning magic as they went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh. The Gators took game one of Friday's doubleheader with a final of 2-1.

NOTABLE STATS
- Micaela Harris went 1-for-3 and had a stolen base

GAME 2 - HOW IT HAPPENED
A productive third inning from Humboldt gave the 'Jacks an early 3-0 lead. A Shelby Shanks walk and singles from Alyssa Smokey, McKenna Beach, and Katlyn Gifford resulted in three runs on three hits. The Gators matched Humboldt in the top of the fifth inning, scoring three runs on three hits. Misasi, Gonzales, and Nilson all recorded hits in the inning. As a result, one big inning from each team propelled the game to extra innings tied 3-3. In the top of the eighth inning, Nilson singled to right field to get the Gators going. Two batters later, Vincent doubled down the left field line that scored Nilson and gave San Francisco State a 4-3 lead. In their final at-bats, Humboldt threatened to score as Kristin Ingram advanced to second base on a Vanessa Saltos sacrifice bunt. Shelby Shanks came up and hit a laser to shallow center field that resulted in a double play, as Ingram got caught off the base to finish the game. The 'Jacks fell 4-3 to San Francisco State in game two of Friday's doubleheader.
