LOLETA, Calif. -- Cal Poly Humboldt softball hosted San Francisco State for games three and four of the CCAA series on Saturday from Bear River Sports Complex. After a quiet Friday offensively from the 'Jacks, it was the exact opposite on Saturday as they combined for 20 runs in two games. Humboldt took game one on Saturday with a final of 9-3, and mercy ruled San Francisco State 11-1 in five innings for the second game of the doubleheader which resulted in a series split.
Cal Poly Humboldt climbed to 10-14 overall and 3-7 in CCAA play, while San Francisco State dropped to 9-12 overall and 2-8 in CCAA play.
GAME 1
San Francisco State struck first in the top of the third inning after two hits and two Humboldt errors awarded the Gators with a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lumberjacks got started with a single to left field from
Izzy Starr. Starr scored on a
Shelby Shanks double two batters later to get on the scoreboard. After loading the bases,
Micaela Harris walked and collected an RBI that made it a 3-2 San Francisco State lead. A hit parade from the Humboldt offense in the bottom of the sixth inning resulted in seven runs.
Alyssa Smokey had two hits, while
Katlyn Gifford,
Kristin Ingram,
Shelby Shanks, and
Tessa Poirier all recorded singles. The 'Jacks entered the final inning with a commanding 9-3 lead. Smokey pitched a perfect 4.1 innings after relieving
Gaige Garcia earlier in the game, as she did not allow a single hit, walk, or run. Humboldt took game one of Saturday's doubleheader with a final score of 9-3.

GAME 2
From start to finish it was all Lumberjacks. Despite having some help from San Francisco State in earning six walks, the 'Jacks had all eight of their hits in the first three innings that posted a dominant 11-1 lead early. The 11-run total is the most runs scored in a conference game and second most overall for Humboldt this season.
Gaige Garcia pitched four innings and only allowed one run.
Ava Hand made an appearance in the fifth inning that closed the door on the Gators, as she didn't allow a baserunner. The 'Jacks mercy-ruled San Francisco State 11-1 and bounced back in exciting fashion to earn the Saturday sweep.

UP NEXT
Cal Poly Humboldt (10-14, 3-7 CCAA) has won eight of their last eleven games and will look to keep the hot streak going as they head to Rohnert Park next week to take on a ranked Sonoma State (18-4, 12-3 CCAA). The Seawolves currently hold the top spot in the CCAA standings. The 'Jacks will play Friday at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm and on Saturday at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm from Seawolf Softball Field.
