ROWING TRAVELS TO SEATTLE FOR GNAC SHOWDOWN
After opening the season this past weekend in Sacramento, the Lumberjack crew squad will head north to compete at the Husky Open, hosted by the University of Washington, at Montlake Cut in Seattle, Washington. 

Last weekend, the 'Jacks faced Division I foes Saint Mary's and Sacramento State. This weekend, the team will get its first crack at Division II competition when it competes against fellow GNAC members Western Washington and Seattle Pacific. The Vikings enter the season ranked first in the conference preseason coaches poll while the Falcons come in ranked second. The Lumberjacks come in currently ranked fourth.

SOFTBALL ON THE ROAD TO FACE NO. 13 SONOMA STATE
Coming off a 2-2 weekend at home against San Francisco State, the 'Jacks, who have won 7 of their last 10 games, will look to keep their momentum when they travel to Rohnert Park for a conference series against No. 13 Sonoma State on Friday and Saturday. Action on Friday will begin at 1 p.m. while action on Saturday will begin at 11 a.m.

After this weekend, Micaela Harris leads the CCAA by a large margin in stolen bases (30) and is tied for third nationally. At 143 career stolen bases, Harris sits just two behind Jamie Peterson (1996-99) to be tied for the second most stolen bases all-time in school history. Harris is also tied for second in the CCAA in runs scored with 20. Izzy Starr is tied for third in the conference in RBI with 17 so far this season, while Katlyn Gifford ranks eighth in the conference in batting average (.373) and slugging percentage (.552). Gaige Garcia is seventh in the conference with an ERA of 1.43. 

TRACK & FIELD HEADS TO SAN DIEGO FOR THREE MEETS
The Green & Gold track team will head down to the southern part of the state for three separate meets this weekend. The team will begin the weekend at the Aztec Invitational at San Diego State on Thursday, March 23. Following that, the team will participate in the Mangrum Invitational/CCAA Preview at Cal State San Marcos on Friday, March 24 and the Point Loma Invitational at Point Loma University on Saturday, March 25.

Joy Hano climbed further up the school record lists in the 100m hurdles and 200m this past weekend and currently ranks second and fifth in the conference in each event respectively. Amelia Jackson ran 2:19 in the 800m this weekend to earn the second fastest time in the CCAA so far this season. On the men's side, Aris Valerio's career best 1:52.74 in the 800m keeps him ranked fourth in the conference

SOCCER AND VOLLEYBALL SQUADS KICK OFF SPRING EXHIBITIONS
Cal Poly Humboldt's men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball squads will kick off some spring exhibition action on the road this weekend. Volleyball will compete at Chico State on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m.. On Sunday, March 26, men's soccer will compete against UC Davis at 5 p.m. while women's soccer will be competing against Dominican in San Rafael, California at 2 p.m.

ALYSSA SMOKEY NAMED CCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Via the CCAA: "Alyssa Smokey did a bit of everything for the Cal Poly Humboldt softball team last week to earn the CCAA Player of the Week honors. (Mar. 13-19)

smokey aotw 23Smokey hit .875 (7-for-8) on the week and was a part of three wins for the Lumberjacks. The sophomore pitcher and utility player had two doubles, three RBI, five walks, and a run scored to go along with a .923 on-base percentage. The right-hander also pitched 13.2 innings over three games, allowing only one earned run and collecting two wins.

In a non-conference game against Dominican, Smokey went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI. She also combined on an 8-0 shutout, throwing the first five innings allowing no runs and only two hits. 

Against San Francisco State, the Gardnerville, Nev., native hit safely in each of the games she played. On her only 'flaw' of the week, Smokey still reached base on a fielding error as she did not record an out in 13 plate appearances. 

Smokey is the first Cal Poly Humboldt student-athlete to earn CCAA Player of the Week honors since Lexee Sheiring in March 2020."Smokey LJOTW 23

SMOKEY, VALERIO EARN LUMBERJACK OF THE WEEK HONORS
For their performances this past week, Alyssa Smokey and Aris Valerio both earned Lumberjack of the Week accolades. 

As mentioned prior, Smokey had a solid weekend for the Green & Gold with her offensive and pitching performances. 

Valerio earned a career best in the 800m and currently ranks 4th in the conference and 12th nationally.
