'Jacks Surrender to #13 Seawolves on Saturday

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Lumberjacks looked to bounce back on Saturday after falling twice to the 13th ranked Sonoma State Seawolves on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves claimed a 2-1 victory over Humboldt in the first game on Saturday after it extended to extra innings. Game two saw Sonoma State earn the series sweep after defeating Humboldt 8-0 in five innings. Micaela Harris led the 'Jacks on Saturday, going 2-for-6 on the day with a double and a run batted in.

Cal Poly Humboldt falls to 10-16 overall and 3-11 in CCAA play, while No. 13 Sonoma State remains in first place, improving to 22-4 overall and 16-3 in CCAA play.

GAME 1
The top of the third inning saw Humboldt take a 1-0 lead after Micaela Harris hit a double down the left field line that scored Shelby Shanks, who hit a single to right field earlier in the inning. Sonoma struck back in the bottom of the fourth after Giana Hays knocked in a run on a double to right center field. A three hit inning for the Seawolves tied the game at one run a piece. Neither team was able to scratch a run across the scoreboard through seven innings of play. However, Sonoma State came up clutch late once again, as Jordyn Martinez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Seawolves a 2-1 extra innings victory over the Lumberjacks.

NOTABLE STATS
- Micaela Harris hit a double and had one run batted in
- Vanessa Saltos, Shelby Shanks, and Alyssa Smokey all recorded a hit
- Shanks scored the only run for Humboldt
- Karen Di Dio (0-2) received the loss

GAME 2
The Seawolves controlled the pace of the game against Humboldt from start to finish. While the 'Jacks posted two hits in five innings and struggled to get the bats rolling against Nichole Sarra, Sonoma State had a couple of big innings that allowed them to expand on their lead early. They scored two runs in the first inning on three hits and one run in the third inning on four hits. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the 'Jacks defense surrendered three hits and an error, resulting in five Seawolf runs that made it an 8-0 game. In their final at-bats, Humboldt couldn't scratch a run across the plate to extend the game and ended the four-game series with an 8-0 loss to the 13th ranked team in the country.

NOTABLE STATS
