ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Cal Poly Humboldt volleyball team picked up two wins on Friday at the Seawolf Invitational after sweeping Alaska Fairbanks in three sets and defeating Florida Tech in four sets. The Lumberjacks were led by
Awelina Fakalata in the first match as she posted 15 kills, eight digs, three blocks and two service aces. In the second match, Fakalata,
Lindsey McLaughlin, and
Elyse McKinney combined for 42 kills.
Kyra Slavik posted 76 assists on the day and
Mina Barajas led the team in digs with 25 total. Overall, it was a well rounded day for the 'Jacks as they bounced back with two wins after dropping their first match on Thursday.
"Today was a great day for Lumberjack Volleyball," said head coach
Angela Spoja. "We came off a loss last night and had to clean up our unforced errors to make a difference today. The athletes responded well and it was a full team effort. It was a big day for our pin hitters in McLaughlin and Fakalata, followed by McKinney. Slavik also delivered a better ball and a faster offense for our hitters. We put up some really high blocking numbers but I am most proud that our serve receive cleaned up and we stayed in system all day. I'm very happy with our effort."
