TURLOCK, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt men's soccer team faced off against Hawai'i Pacific University from the neutral site of Warrior Stadium in Turlock. The 'Jacks tallied their second straight win after defeating the Sharks with a final score of 2-0.
Marcus Abdel-Malek and
Duke Romanchak each scored, while
Adrian Gallardo had six saves in goal.
Match Summary
Humboldt was on the attack early when
Landon Leal Ruiz took a shot on goal that was saved by HPU at the three minute mark. The Sharks responded with five straight shots but were unlucky in finding the back of the net as well. As the first half came to a close,
Ernie Garza threatened with two more shots but could not convert. At the half, the teams were tied 0-0.
The Lumberjacks struck first in the 72
nd minute when
Marcus Abdel-Malek scored his first goal of the season on an assist from
Ernie Garza. Hawai'i Pacific continued to apply the pressure offensively but were unsuccessful converting on any of their shots. In the 83
rd minute,
Duke Romanchak recorded his second goal of the season on a
Ryan Rutherford and
Cole Falco assist. Falco cracked his way into the CCAA top-10 for assists and currently sits at number nine. Humboldt held off any late Shark attacks and finished the match on top for a 2-0 victory over HPU.
